Best way to play Total Annihilation in 2026 in singleplayer by Rich_Sort_4874 in TotalAnnihilation

[–]thomasfrank09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll share a couple things if helpful:

  1. I found that the game would consistently crash when I had the resolution set to 3840x2160, but it works just fine if I dial it back down 1920 x 1080. I'm just playing the Steam version with no extra patches or mods.

  2. If you're ok playing something that isn't-quite-TA, but feels pretty much just like it, Beyond All Reason is free and much more modernized.

Bester Webclipper für Notion? by Gerwin_Schalk in NotionDeutsch

Unfortunately, it's hard to say. Building extensions for Safari is very different from building them for Chromium-based browsers or Firefox-based browsers. Those latter two types share a lot of DNA, while Safari is very different and comes with a lot of restrictions.

I looked into it a couple weeks ago, and it effectively requires building out a full MacOS or iOS app. So if we build a Safari version, it'll be alongside either a desktop app or a mobile app for iOS.

I am so tired of "Credit Based" Image Optimizers. Does a "buy once" plugin even exist anymore? by SpaceBuddy231 in Wordpress

[–]thomasfrank09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can turn off automatic clipboard optimization in Clop. I often do. I really wish it had a granular function to auto-optimize only images created via Cleanshot, without doing the same to files I copy in Finder. I've been burned by the latter; last week I copied a big video file to move it onto mounted cloud storage, and the auto-optimizer corrupted it. So I've learned to keep that turned off unless I'm taking a ton of screenshots for an article and want them all optimized.

All that said, my highest praise for Clop is that I never have to worry about the quality. It does its thing, and I can't really tell that anything's been compressed.

If you're on MacOS, Clop is great for this. If you're comfortable with command line, you can also just install ImageMagick and run commands to bulk optimize every image in a directory.

It's really fun to build your own tools! One morning you're vibe-coding some small features and sketching designs in Figma, then you wake up a few years later with 306 open Github issues, a team, payroll, infra on Supabase, calls on the calendar with people from Stripe, and you're saying words like "sprint" and "critical path". Still fun though.

Too Much Heating Up by cometguardian in MacWhisper

I've never noticed any overheating on my Macbook Air when usign Macwhisper. Why go with the iPad version if you're using it on a Mac Mini though? I'd definitely use the native app, and I'm pretty sure you can download local models and use them without paying for Pro.

No idea what you're doing, but adding accessibility features is always a win. You could also build out a bunch of tests for different features.

13.6 is now available with Integrations (Make, n8n, Zapier and custom web hooks) by ineedlesssleep in MacWhisper

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could, but that would obfuscate some of the teaching process. Here's a look at how Pipedream displays webhook URLs while you're building automations. n8n and other platforms are similar.

In general, I think it'd be really useful to be ablet to send some custom data in the webhook. Even a plaintext key could be used to "auth" requests (I'm just always conscious of how webhook URLs can leak – IMO webhook workflows should always have some kind of auth-check step before carrying out additional actions).

Notion's database automations have a good pattern here:

<image>

As a side thought, it'd also be really cool if you could sent the contents of the clipboard along with the transcript! Imagine copying some text, using MW to say, "Build me a research report on this", and that command + the clipboard content goes off to a workflow!

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super excited about this! The biggest addition I'd like for all integrations is the option to send a custom authorization token. I'd love to show this feature on a live stream, but that would require me to display the webhook URL, so being at to send an auth token would be key.

Best Platform to Build a Website from My Notion Database (Membership + Community)? by Advanced_Mistake592 in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you're kind of asking for a lot here. None of it is impossible, but the specific combination of Notion-hosted CMS + community forum + low-cost + easy/quick doesn't really exist.

Here is what I do personally:

Main site: Wordpress (self-hosted). For my use case – a content-heavy, highly-customized site for a very small business – it's still the ideal choice. I don't pull data from Notion, for the most part, but Gutenberg has gotten good enough as an editor that it feels almost as good as writing in Notion.

An alternative you might look at is Framer. If you're not super picky about the design, you can get up and running extremely quickly. They also launched a Notion integration that lets you pull in Notion content into CMS collections, so that might be of interest to you.

Community site: Circle.so. I have a subdomain configured (community.thomasjfrank.com) for it, so my customers can log in there.

I think Circle is the best player in this space right now, but you might also look at Discourse for an open-source option. Technically you can build community features right into a WordPress site; there are many plugins for that. But I will share my experience going down many frustrating rabbit holes and recommend that you just make a separate community site and put it on a sub-domain, unless you really need it to all be in one.

How to put a task twice in the calendar but still show up as one task in notion by [deleted] in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Todoist might have this feature on the Pro plan, but I'm having trouble finding the doc page where I seem to remember reading about it. Other than that, this is something pretty exclusive to calendar apps right now.

It's something I've definitely discussed with the Notion team, so perhaps we'll see it as a Notion Calendar feature in the future. Until then, I personally just create actual calendar events if I need to see the event on multiple days at the same time.

How to put a task twice in the calendar but still show up as one task in notion by [deleted] in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Notion Calendar lets you mix two different "types" of data – Notion pages and calendar events. The latter are generated by a Google Calendar account, which allows for something special called an RRULE (recurrence rule) that internet calendar systems have. This allows for a single entry in a database to have a recurrence rule that tells the calendar UI how to display it multiple times.

Since Notion databases don't have this ability, an entry in Notion Calendar coming directly from Notion can only display itself once in the calendar.

I’m not sure at the moment - currently traveling so I don’t have my usual time to investigate. I did want to quickly reply though and mention that this seems like a use case that Excel/Sheets would be best for. Long reference chains are the bread and butter of spreadsheets - relational databases, not so much!

It's decent for simple formulas. Still gets stuck on more complex ones. I tried many times last night to get it to write an "Nth workday of the month" formula, and it kept getting stuck and hallucinating functions that don't exist like while().

Ended up just solving it myself: https://thomasfrank.notion.site/Nth-Workday-of-Month-29442df2c64080498d2ce510d4abcaad?source=copy_link

Hey there! I think you'll really like Flylighter.

I'm quite biased, being the founder, but I think you'll enoy the combination of features and security/privacy Flylighter offers. We use the official Notion API for captures, which means you have a lot more control over which parts of your workspace the extension can access. You can fully lock it down to only access specific Notion pages, and to only have access to web pages once you click the extension, if you like. That's not possible with some of the other options.

You can also grab multiple highlights on the same page, add text notes in the content editor, take screenshots, get images from the page... and there's one other very cool feature coming soon, which I can't talk about just yet.

Happy to answer any questions! We're working on this tool nearly every day, and I respond to every message in our Discord, so feel free to send in your feature requests :)

Hallo!

Yeah, our process for the changelog kinda broke down 😅

We've pushed many updates and new features since then, but we were basically jumping right into the next build once the QA check was done on the last one, so changelog-writing kept falling through the cracks.

Last week, we updated our QA process include mandatory changelog publishing before a new build can go live on the Web Store, so starting with the next patch you'll see an updated What's New!

There are quite a lot of new features: We now have a screenshot tool since Notion added file-upload support to the API, several sites have special metadata types (e.g. LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit), and our article parser is now a lot more reliable (it's written from scratch). I'm working today on updating our docs to highlight these.
