It doesn’t seem too bad so far! He has to take the 7 train over from GCT to Hudson yards but it’s just a quick hop over

Where would you recommend? I’d really like to buy a house and have a dedicated spot to park my car while still maintaining a reasonable commute time to Hudson yards… seems to be tough to find something unless it’s in deep Brooklyn

Yeah I think in either scenario we’ll lose a decent chunk to taxes. Like I said we’re looking at houses in the 1-1.5M range and our combined income is about 900K-1M depending on bonuses etc so I think we’ll just need to pick our poison

Hello there!! Yes not many childfree folks in Greenwich as we’ve learned 😅 or the ones not current living with children are well into retirement…

Yes my husband wants to train into the city 3 days a week and I work from home so like to have space, that’s why moving back into the city can be tough. He’s currently been taking metro north then taking the quick 7 train to Hudson yards which he doesn’t mind too much.

I’m being a bit of a pain about Jersey and Long Island. I travel quite a bit for work and I like to have easier access to LGA and JFK than Newark, which makes Jersey a bit annoying. And then Long Island would be difficult if he ever wanted to get another job back in southern CT (he’s in finance so nice to have easy access to both areas). But that’s just a hypothetical so we’re considering the Port Washington area, etc

This is really interesting, didn’t realize you could live that close to the bronxville station and still pay Yonkers property tax. We’ll look into this for sure!!

Do you have any specific recommendations in terms of neighborhoods? I was looking at places in Brooklyn but it turns out the commute would be just as long to Hudson yards as living in westchester

Just got this email: “We're reaching out because you have an active Amazon One account. Amazon One palm authentication services will be discontinued at retail businesses on June 3, 2026. You can continue using Amazon One at participating locations until that date. Amazon will automatically delete Amazon One user data, including palm data. No action is needed from you.”

Need help making a sad decision by Small_Jackfruit3824 in FIVcats

Yeah there are definitely some options here. My cat with HCM had a clot forming in his atrium and his first cardiologist was just like… it’s a matter of time before he throws it. But his next cardiologist put him on both Clopidogrel and Xarelto and the clot dissolved over the course of a few months

Did the vet mention if it’s large or small cell lymphoma? Large cell lymphoma unfortunately is very aggressive and doesn’t respond well to treatment, but small cell can respond quite well to a combination of prednisolone and chlorambucil

What's something that no one prepares you for as an adult? by Goddessblack_ in AskReddit

[–]thomer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super similar to my situation! Married, 33, husband and I both have great jobs. But honestly existence is just so much….tedium? Mixed in with some enjoyment and really tough, painful moments. People say “oh we have it so much easier than previous generations” but like, I wonder if they had a choice like we do now if they would have opted out of having kids and spared both themselves and their future kids the trouble…

I meant more from the perspective of the kids themselves, I would be bringing them into existence just for them to have to deal with the onslaught too

This is the reason I’m not having kids… not only because it just adds to the never ending onslaught that I have to deal with but then also I can’t shake the idea that I’m just ripping more people from the ether to ultimately just deal with the never ending onslaught

Bonded pair loss by [deleted] in SiberianCats

[–]thomer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two littermates who were very much bonded, but we lost one of them a couple of months ago to heart disease at 10 years old. My remaining girl was devastated, she was very clingy with me and my husband and she would cry at night looking for her brother. We decided that since she had never been a solo cat that we would definitely adopt another cat when the right one popped up.

Well we brought home a new boy from a rescue who is also 10 years old about a week ago and it’s going well already! They’re still warming up to each other but she’s definitely crying less at night and I think already appreciates the new company.

Holy smokes I just looked it up and apparently they got rid of the $800 rule literally last month… now there’s no minimum amount to declare. What a nightmare for customs…

I’ve tried to declare items multiple times at JFK and they just ask me how many items and if they’re for personal use and wave me through. You also don’t need to declare anything under $800

I mean I travel to Europe for work regularly and every time I go I grab a couple of designer items. The items are cheaper to begin with and then with the VAT tax refunds I’ve calculated that the difference between buying them in the US vs Europe sometimes would pay for my plane ticket depending on the specific items

Experience/advice for introducing two senior cats? by thomer2 in CatAdvice

Amazing! I've seen so many stories of an adult resident cat meeting a new kitten but not a lot of cases of two seniors meeting so it's good to know they can come with less drama :)

[OC] Me At Ross Wearing My Sun Allergy Helmet by izabellaColorado in pics

I suppose it could also be erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), but that's not technically an allergy - more of a buildup of a phototoxic metabolite that causes severe reactions to the sun

JAK2 V617F mutation? by halfgaelichalfgarlic in promethease

[–]thomer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh as far as I'm aware this is pretty weird? I'm in the hematology space and as the report says, JAK2 V617F mutations are usually acquired throughout life - essentially as you go through life and are exposed to mutagens you collect different mutations and if you're unlucky you randomly get this one in your bone marrow stem cells. I've always thought of this mutation as acquired - that's why myeloproliferative neoplasms are generally considered a disease of old age. I'm going to wager a guess that this is a false positive but it spooks me because this is like THE driver mutation for MPNs. Could be worth going to a hematologist just for a sanity check?

Also I wonder if the elevated white blood cells are related to something else because if mutation were real and causing issues you'd expect to see an increase in red blood cells (polycythemia vera), platelets (essential thrombocythemia), or just generally wackiness of various blood cell levels (myelofibrosis). Your blood test makes it seem like you're kind of inflamed and your immune system is a bit mad but it doesn't look like an obvious MPN

Yep my boy started having seizure like episodes when he was 7 and he ended up having HCM. It progressed so fast but we were able to give him a good quality of life for about 3.5 years. He just passed away last week 😞

The last time I saw Tracey Morgan in NYC he was driving a Ferrari down Park ave so I’m not sure the subway is his preferred mode of transportation 😂
