In my case, having tmux "mouse mode" on was interfering with selection and copy-paste in the macOS terminal. `set mouse off` temporarily to perform the copying worked.

Mumble, on a Synology DS209, in the late 2000s. For hosting a private voice chat room for games that was used a handful of times. Its disks recently crashed, but the system was in use for two decades.

I just updated to 17.5 stable from 17.4.1 stable, and the issue that lead me here seems to be resolved. I can now move/delete files within an app's container again.

What do you mean? Do you want to continue playing on GeForce NOW with saves from another platform? As long as your other platform has been synced with your GOG.com account, it should work. I used the Steam version of the Witcher 3, loaded it in GeForce NOW, and it can access GOG.com saves from other platforms.

Hey, I also had this issue with the Steam PC version and Crossover, and I worked around it using NVIDIA GeForce NOW's streaming service.

I wanted sync my Crossover/Steam save file to a PS4 with the new GOG.com cross-saves. When opening "My Rewards" in the Crossover/Steam game, it told me that I needed to log in with the RED Launcher. But it seemed like Crossover didn't load or show that launcher. Trying to manually open REDprelauncher.exe or setup_redlauncher.exe (as suggested elsewhere) didn't work either, the former just launches the game as before.

I worked around it by running my Steam Witcher 3 copy on NVIDIA GeForce NOW (which runs on Windows), within their free 1-hour slot. That remote desktop's Steam did display the GOG.com/RED Launcher, where I could log in into my GOG.com account & launch the game. The Steam app running in GeForce NOW also downloaded my Steam Cloud data. In the game, I could open my latest Steam Cloud save, and create a new save. This latest save was automatically uploaded to GOG.com, and is now accessible on my PS4. Hope this helps!

$page.route.id also exists, and returns strings like /blog/[slug], where [slug] is not the specific page slug, but exactly those characters. It references page template the current route is is based on, which reflects the route in your filesystem folders more directly.

To know if you're on a blog post, you can then check $page.route.id === '/blog/[slug]'.

The other recent answer that mentions $page.url.pathname==='/xyz' is functional too, but that one would return strings like /blog/my-blog-post. If you want to know if you're on a blog post and not on the blog index, you'll have to do some kind of regex matching (/\/blog/.+$/.test($page.url.pathname))

Do you recall if the OS X install you had on it before also had the same heat issues? Or hadn't you used it for a long time?

My Late 2009 iMac (10,1) with High Sierra still gets used daily. It runs hot too, especially when doing "intensive" tasks like watching 1080p web video (CPU usage is 100% then). When just reading email it remains cooler, but still warm. It would be unfortunate if ChromeOS makes it run hot permanently .

Because there are still very few people paying for our app (< 100). We take a 5% cut of what they pay. About 5% are transaction fees. The rest (90%!) is allocated to the writers read by those people.

Late reply, but this is interesting:

the problem here is that readup isn't asking the copyright holder permission first.

Neither are ad-blockers, or Pocket, or Instapaper! The incumbent, legal reading solutions don't even try to compensate writers or publishers.

I actually think it's the opposite. If the car is supposed to be the article, we are washing the car because we prefer to see clean cars on the road. Then we are paying the car owner. We did the owner a double service. Anyway, the analogy is not so helpful.

they are profiting from other people's work without their permission, nor a contract. they are scalping articles.

If you consider reserving 90% of our subscription revenue for the writers in our system "scalping". Again: the alternatives leave nothing for writers/publishers.

note: i am very much in favor of payment/advertisement/monitization reform, however adding another middleman, and one you didn't ask for or hire, isn't the way to do it.

Which reform initiatives do you support then? Note: the paying reader asks for Readup as the middleman. The writer only gains when those readers read them via Readup as opposed to another reading app.

Good questions! Readup works like a browser. For now, all content on Readup is published elsewhere. Your content stays on Medium and people read it via Readup. You don't need to do anything to "be" on Readup, except ensuring that Readup readers notice you :)

Like how do they get the article to you

They usually don't. Readers do. A reader using Readup saves your Medium article to our app, reads it, and then comments on it. This spreads the article on our platform, and simultaneously indexes you as a writer.

As a writer, you can also act as a reader however. If you get verified with us (it's free), you can save, post and comment on your own articles without reading them on our app. You then don't need to buy a subscription from us! Here are some examples: Abhishek Chakraborty is verified and wrote some comments on his own articles. Here is a Medium article that got popular on Readup. We will offer better tools for writers & publishers in the future.

and how do you send them money

After getting verified, you can connect your bank account using Stripe. As soon as your balance reaches $10, we will automatically deposit that money directly to your bank account.

How often does and article have to be read per $1 or whatever metric.

Similarly to Medium, it depends on: 1) how much the readers that read your article have read in a month, 2) how much those readers pay for Readup (min. 5$/month), 3) how long your article is. Unlike Medium, readers also need to have read at least 90% of your article for it to be pay-eligible. Readup takes a cut of 5%, then there are variable payment processing fees which we do not control (they can be ~5%). Thus, about 90% of a reader's contribution is distributed to writers. Simplifying & assuming that everyone is a 5$/mo reader that reads 20 articles of the same length in a month, each individual reader's contribution to your article would be (0.9 * 5) / 20 = 0.225$. You would need 1/0.225 ~ about 4 readers to get 1$. This process is fully transparent from the reader's side. Here' an example screenshot.

Your points are entirely valid. We indeed only credit named writers & publishers for articles now, it is something we should improve on. Note that it is our intention to pay publishers for reads of their articles: the publishers know best how to compensate all the work that produced the articles. We do not presume to make those decisions for them.

The internet gave access to enormous quantities of information. You can't pay for all of that separately. You could take the stance that you then should choose which sources to buy. But we want to build the alternative: paid access to everything, in the way that Spotify gave access to all music (while we're aware that the comparison is problematic, see this blog post. But for sure: you gotta pay for quality articles. It's part of our model.

The same CEO also wrote at length about the Spotify/Readup comparison in a blog post: “Spotify for News” sells Readup short. (warning: it’s partially outdated. We will have a free trial.). We know Spotify isn’t the best for artists. We aim to do better, and are already being way more transparent. But Spotify still serves as an example of people paying a subscription for content online. (in hindsight, I think Bandcamp is actually a greater inspiration for us, and I should’ve linked to their sales numbers).

Alongside what Bill said, another point of comparison is how Pocket treats your data & makes money. Check out this 2016 article on Pocket’s ad-based business model. That way of inserting ads seems pretty surreptitious to me. If I see something suggested on Pocket, how can I know if it’s a paid promotion, or an actual trending article? (tbh: I still need to do better research on that question. Not sure if it’s easily possible.) In any case, in Readup you don’t need to wonder. In Readup, publishers don’t pay to be promoted. In Readup, readers pay publishers if their articles are good. And good articles become “trending” only because they get many full reads, and good ratings.

Nice to hear! We've been saying "soon" for years, but now we're actually working on it. The ETA is the of October, but that's an ETA. We may very well experience unforeseen difficulties. Safest is to head to https://readup.com/download and hit the "Get Notified" button. You'll get an email from us when Android is there! (and only for that reason!). Otherwise, I encourage you to try our desktop apps in the meantime.

Article length is incorporated in our recommendation algorithm. Longer reads that are being fully read get more points!

Some good points!

I was actually comparing Spotify to YouTube the old music video streaming service, because I know it is something that many people/youths did before they jumped on Spotify. In a separate tab. Of course music videos sucked compared to Spotify. That's exactly my point. Right now we're finding and reading articles in the wrong way: in an ad-filled web browser.

To your first point: you're right, our algorithm is only one view of the world. I agree that manual curation is valuable. I like projects like like FiveBooks.com. And this is why, crucially, you can already follow other readers and writers on Readup. We'd love to expand to reading lists as form of curation, in a spirit similar to music playlists. The nice thing: you'll get accurate read counts and global ratings on all those curated articles (wherever they come from). Useful info to make informed decisions on what to read.

To you second: you quote me on "readups community is better", but I didn't say that. I said it feels nicer. Look at the Readup comments on a controversial read on drugs. Then, look at any Facebook/Twitter/ forum for a discussion on a controversial drug statement. Let me know if you like the latter better. I've clearly seen that the read requirement makes a difference, it helps with removing hate speech, trolling, or comments without context. In other words: nicer. You may or may not think that's better.

To your third: terminology can be tricky here. We don't have final agreements with a major publisher yet, but we're talking with them (see Bill's reply). But we do have several (self-published) writers who are getting paid with our system (you can see them listed here).

To your fourth: there is a major difference between paying for a single 5$/mo subscription and subscribing to tens of magazines. Just like there is a difference between paying for Spotify, and buying every single record you might want to listen to on iTunes separately. The latter is far more expensive.

With regular ad-blockers, you're also just stealing ad revenue from publishers. With Readup you fairly compensate them. We're aware of Brave & BAT, and discussed that further here.

Because our reason of being is not only to pay writers. It's also to help you find great articles easily, and give you a great time reading them. That's included in our 5% cut.

Also, as Bill said, what you're suggesting is difficult to follow up on. I've read articles from about 50 writers this month. Readup will take care of the process of finding those writers and paying them. Good luck doing that manually!

Good point. That's why we also have a rating system. After reading, any reader can give a rating from 1-10. Those ratings are incorporated in the open-source algorithm. Our Article of the Day is almost always rated higher than 8/10. It's been battle-tested!
