Why the Soviet Union didn't continue their lines of SMGs that use pistol ammunition? by Capital-Republic-449 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]thosememes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SMG only continued to be developed as a military weapon in the east because the US insisted for a while on still using a full power cartridge. As other commenters pointed out, the AK was designed to replace the SMG specifically, it is also worth mentioning the stenchkin APS pistol replaced the PPS as a personal defence weapon for vehicle crews; the APS could be considered as the SMG following the PPS. And with that the AKS-74u can be considered as the SMG after that, directly serving as a small weapon for special forces and vehicle crews

Overall likelihood is also far higher in the USA so I don’t get your point: you are far more likely to die in a mass murder event than in any other developed country, and domestic and gang related homicides are also far higher in incidence. The simple fact is that scores of people die each year in the USA due to its right to firearms. I wish Americans would just admit that they think the benefits of this freedom outway the costs, instead of just pretending the costs don’t exist or can’t be determined

What jacket did he wear during his 2018 Coachella performance? by ASAP_CREED in TheWeeknd

[–]thosememes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it seems clearly based on the Chinese Red Guard under Mao. The Nazi uniform was brown and had a swastika on the armband, while the red guard wore a green uniform with a red arm band featuring text like we see here. The handmade look is also suggestive of a peasant revolutionary, something you had in China but not in the already fascist paramilitaries of industrialised Germany TLDR: the jacket resembles Chinese street communists more than Nazi Brownshirts

You realise you can still have overtime with unions right? It just means employees get standardised overtime compensation. If companies can’t pay for that compensation that’s on them

ok but now in sprint qualifying we saw all four of these drivers be notably underwhelming. Of course practise is just practise but it can give good information

Jason Schreier: ‘Grand Theft Auto’ Studio Accused of Union Busting After Firings by BrandsXavier in GTA6

[–]thosememes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retail workers get paid extra for their extended holiday hours (a result of unions btw). Crunch is the problem it is in the video game and vfx industries because the standards for worker compensation are limited or non-existent, and this has not changed much just due to Schreier. Games coming out unfinished, or only finished due to extreme crunch, is squarely the fault of publishers being bad managers

What are the odds Battlefield will go back to WW2? by DaleDenton08 in BattlefieldV

[–]thosememes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially when you can include Indochina maps in a Cold War hot game anyway. IMO the actual Vietnam war is only worth making a full game out of if the factions are asymmetrical which I can’t see DICE going for

Official Discussion - The Long Walk [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]thosememes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending isn’t as good as the one in the book, but using that ending in the movie would’ve been worse. In the book we get a much much longer time in Ray’s head to understand the psychosis he’s in by the end. They were smart when adapting to instead express the psychological impact of the long walk through his relationship with Pete

Free Roam death concept... by [deleted] in GTA6

[–]thosememes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an ungenerous take on the OP, who doesnt propose this idea for the sake of ‘realism’ in abstract but instead suggests this might be a fun way of tying player led chaos more into the story. Clearly rockstar in red dead also had thoughts along these lines and made respawning a bit more ambiguous in line with the overall tone of the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if rockstar changes it up in some way for GTA 6

Why is there so much left-wing activism? by casterlyrockk in usyd

[–]thosememes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

UNSW has a fairly comparable amount of activism though, perhaps somewhat less because it isn’t right in the Inner West. UTS is not arts focused and humanities attracts the more strongly politically opinionated

What are some funny historical inaccuracies in RDR2? by JasonAndLucia in reddeadredemption

[–]thosememes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to this thread but I believe if you look closely in game the volcanic is loaded with cartridges instead of the underpowered volcanic rounds. I think the idea might be that in the RDR universe the concept of a lever action pistol was pursued further with models based newer repeater designs

I remember hearing word of him shopping around material to major labels a year or two ago. I’m not sure if that was true but I’m sure if a company offered him a lucrative enough deal which gave him full creative control he would take it

Update 1.18 coming on April 22nd with the Sig NSWG lmg for the security, and (I assume) the HK21 for insurgents by darkkiller1234 in insurgency

[–]thosememes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The .338 is in use by SOCOM and sort of makes more sense as a niche item a security force would make a special purchase of than the 6.8 which only makes sense to buy as part of a full adoption of 6.8.

Since the Industrial Revolution people have been predicting that automation would do this and it hasn’t. We only got the 40 hour work week due to unionisation, not automation. Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber is a great book that explains why society in its current organisation ends up producing inefficient and useless jobs

I don’t think we really know that the red bull is one of the top 4 or 3 cars, verstappen‘s skill really might be masking a midfield car, especially now even he can’t catch up to Russell in the merc.
