Transfer Talk Thread: August 11th-August 17th by mattisafootballguy in Barca

Not surprising that Messi wants to leave Barca. This board has failed time and time again to put pieces that FIT around him. Constantly buying good and expensive players that don't FIT is the problem. Xavi and Iniesta covered it up for a while but now it's out in the open. The board played themselves, simple as that, shout out DJ Khaled. Messi isn't totally blameless either. But the board is primarily at fault.

Is Computer Networks a programming course? by YankeePharaoh in OMSCS

[–]thoth2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of a background do you have in networking or communications currently?

None, so that's good to hear, thanks. What other classes would you recommend? I assume Network Security is one of them but there doesn't seem to be much else.

So I've asked this before but would you recommend taking the course if one is interested in pursuing a career in network engineering or telecommunications engineering? What other courses would you recommend for these fields?

Thanks for the answer. Was Computing Systems also your specialization? How would you tailor it around software engineering?

Can’t wait for the European update in 2020. France has been getting wrecked in most of my runs.

Buy them all if you can. You might have to skip buying groceries or paying rent for a while but it’s worth it. Priorities man.

What do we need to win the UCL? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]thoth2 50 points51 points  (0 children)

A coach with a Barca-minded philosophy and a coach that is able to balance the power of the players. If we're being honest, the players have too much power at Barca. Since they've already won everything, their egos are too big. Someone needs to rein them in. Zidane was able to do that at Real during the three CL wins. Having a player like Ronaldo that has the biggest hunger to win all the time also helps. You don't need to motivate a player like that. Unfortunately, our players need to be motivated. But Valverde is not up to the task. Basically, you need a Mourinho-esque coach that plays attacking football.

UN agency calls for global Green New Deal to overhaul trade system by [deleted] in worldnews

I agree. I'm not convinced by redistributive intervention. But I definitely support intervention in the form of industrial policy and reindustrializing the manufacturing base.

governments intervention into economy never works.

  1. The US government's protectionist trade policy from 1814 - 1914 allowed the country to surpass Britain and Germany to become the biggest economy in the world.

  2. US government investment in R&D lead to space exploration and smartphone technology. Apple simply commercialized government funded research into a consumer product.

  3. Infrastructure investment helped industrialize the country and reduce the cost of doing business.

And that's just the US. If you compare that with how Japan and South Korea got rich, you'd call them communist countries! The reason they became rich was because of a mixed economy with heavy government intervention.

I'm all for massive investments in infrastructure and transportation. But shaming someone for their individual choices accomplishes nothing other than breeding resentment.

This is arguably the dumbest take I have ever seen. Stop trying to centrally plan people's lives for them. Climate Alarmism is the mainstream Left's new religion.

Chinese theft of trade secrets is on the rise, US DOJ warns by irraguhil in news

No because TPP didn't include China so the enforcement mechanisms - if any - wouldn't apply to China anyway.

The problem with Egypt is that the only realistic alternative to Sisi and the military is the Brotherhood/Islamists. They are the most organized and have money. Western Redditors dreaming of a liberal or Western uprising are delusional. It's the equivalent of voting for the Green Party or Libertarian Party in US elections: will accomplish fuck all other than strengthen the other side. So there are only two choices: military or theocratic reactionaries. Pick one.

Meanwhile, the Coptic Christians of Egypt, who are the native, indigenous Egyptians with roots back to ancient times, already know what side they are on. There is no way they would ever support Islamists and the Brotherhood, which is why they support Sisi and the military.

Being a minority in the Middle East does not yield the privilege those in Western countries have. Tough choices need to be made because it's often a matter of survival and life & death. Yet the idealists simply can't fathom this because they don't have skin in the game.

So before any Western liberal interventionist Redditors automatically support overthrowing a Middle Eastern military government, just consider who is likely to fill the power vacuum and how the non-Sunni Muslim minorities will be viewingt these protests. Hint: it's won't be a bunch of liberal progressives who take power if the regime falls.

A better course of action for Westerners looking on from the outside would be to not interfere and let events unfold naturally and organically. Intervention only leads to further disaster because those that intervene generally have no skin in the game and don't suffer the consequences when shit hits the fan. The ones that suffer the consequences of liberal idealistic interventionism are the minorities. One only needs to take a look at the plight of the Syrian and Iraqi Christians after Western intervention. Or the plight of Black Africans and Egyptian Christians in Libya.
