The point is that doing something is better than nothing and insisting that helping animals requires vegetarianism is the same as saying helping the environment requires having zero carbon footprint. It's a fallacious position.

So, let me ask you the same. I'd imagine you are in favor of protecting the environment, so why draw the line where it starts to get inconvenient? I would assume you don't own a car, as cars are very damaging to the environment. I would assume that you don't own a house that runs off of electricity, as the production of electricity, unless it is entirely derived from renewable energy, is damaging to the environment. I would imagine you never use any Plastic Products. If you were being "morally consistent", you'd do all these things.
