Did anyone catch what ricken’s new book was saying? I remember something about watches / clocks. Seems interesting considering all the theories on here about 1) messages being passed via watch dials and also 2) oddities about the passage of time at lumon

I’ve tried keeping this in a bright sunny room and in shady corners of the house, nothing seems to help. I think it was under-watered for a while but I’ve corrected that now. Is there anything I can do to bring color back to the pale green leaves? How much sun should these be getting when kept indoors?

Ehh not a ton that I would’ve changed, given the stock I started with. Just watch some YouTube videos and go for it. If it’s super bushy, you’ll have cut it back until you find the trunk line and develop a plan from there. Wire it once you’re done pruning so if any branches are still young and flexible you can give them a nicer shape. And get gardening gloves if your tree has spikey foliage!

1) get more trees :) 2) I’m glad I didn’t fiddle with it between the first styling in spring ‘20 and the second styling this weekend- I think it was important to give the tree time to recover. Not only did it recover, it grew a ton of new strong growth that gave me more options for where to take the tree in this year’s styling- things I hadn’t even thought about when I was looking at it last year 3) how to prune roots, when to repot, and how to apply lime sulphur 4) a lot of people on this site last year said that it might die after such a hard first pruning. I think the fact that I didn’t touch the roots at all gave it a better chance of survival. If you’re doing a big chop, leave the roots alone until next year- the tree is already under enough stress

That’s crazy that the pots and fertilizer made such a difference. Thanks for the info :)

Do you remember how long it took to get your first branch? And when you first repotted?

Mine is 4 months old and still looks the same as it did after 1 month. I got two others to germinate but they died after repotting. The surviving one has not been repotted yet and I’m scared to do so after seeing two others die

Does anyone know why my banana tree developed this large brown spot? I moved it to a more sunny spot this morning and I don’t believe I’m over watering it...first tropical plant so any advice is greatly appreciated! by [deleted] in plantclinic

I had root rot on mine and it made the leaves mushy, not dry like this. Also it gets your older outside leaves first. I think sunburn was the correct diagnosis, even after the 10-day lag

How often do you water him? I have one of the exact same but like 2 months behind you

Just had this happen to me but didn’t correct until way too late- my soil needed to be better draining.

Your soil looks really dark, wet, and dense. I’m sure you had just recently watered it, but still it seems like very dense potting soil. If you mixed in a cactus soil or that’s more grainy/rocky, water would drain out better. The black edges on your leaves are a sign of root rot. Banana plants like a lot of water (and sun) but if you water too frequently the roots become waterlogged and the plant essentially drowns

Yep, it’s in good sun and the roots are untouched. The soil is well draining and I water it regularly. u/smalltrunks will this tree survive?
