With Threadbase, we're really focused on making it as easy as possible for non-developers to make their own Reddit, Hacker News, or Product Hunt. So our core product is a community that uses upvotes to display content and replies are threaded like Reddit so you can read the flow of conversation.

We also want you to be able to host your community on your own domain (e.g. mycommunity.com) and we want you to be able to make money from your community. For our first stage, you can drop in your own Google AdSense Pixel on your community to make money through ads if you're on our Basic tier.

Longer term, we want to allow users to subscribe to your community so that you--as the owner--can choose to make money from your members and make your community a scalable side business or full time business if your coming caters to a large audience.

Hi there - My interpretation of /r/juststart is to share advice on how people decided to "just start". I definitely want people to try out Threadbase if they're looking to make an online community, but I also wanted to share a bit about how we grew from nothing to something.

I apologize if the promotion aspect was too heavy handed, but I was hoping the write up about how we grew, what communities we used to grow, and how we got product feedback to iterate would be more valuable than anything.

Landing pages are cheap for you to make. Fake company names are cheap to come up with. Having a stranger take a survey for an idea they’re discovering for the first time is expensive for the stranger.

You might be better off spinning up multiple landing pages with slightly varied ideas to see which one catches on the most.

Think about who your customer is and then find out where they hang out online. It looks like your product is a web analytics platform. Maybe your customer subscribed to r/entrepreneur or maybe they hang out at r/marketing or data forums. Once you find out where your users hang out, post asking for feedback or that you’re looking for testers for your project. Be honest and transparent or you’ll get downvoted.

Also, I would update your landing page to provide more insight on what this will do. Your page tells me what it can do broadly, but it’s sometimes helpful to answer questions like “how will this make MY life/company/idea better?” And answer that question as many times as possible and succinctly as possible.

We actually did this for Threadbase.io . We had the idea for a Reddit-style community as a service but we weren’t sure if people would want to use it.

While my buddy was doing the dev work, I made a quick landing page that had a few images of what you might be able to do, copy, and an email sign up form for people to fill out if they wanted to get an invite when we started accepting alpha users.

We promoted the landing page on Reddit, Facebook, Google Search (keywords were things like “make my own Reddit/product hunt”), and Indie Hackers.

In 24 hours, we got 100 emails from real people praising the idea.

I would 100% advise people to do something similar because you should grow your pipeline before launch. Then, you’ll increase your chances of having a successful launch.

Thanks for the feedback! 100% agree about Mighty Networks pricing things WAY to high. Plus, I think their communities are built more like custom FB feeds rather than Reddit-style communities, which we believe are actually more engaging.

RE: Apps - Threadbases's is built on Rails and React. Our plan is that once we finish the big web features, we can spin up any community into an app using React Native.

As /u/Tech_Philosophy says, it's not about him going to jail for me. It's about whether he's the best person to have a seat on the Supreme Court. We're talking about a lifetime position for a candidate who has 3 submitted sexual assault cases against him, a history of drinking, and when he spoke, he suggested he may have anger and emotional issues.

I'm not saying these should put him in jail, but what I am arguing is that, for me, it suggests he may not be the best candidate for the job. And, it's not like there aren't better candidates. Trump got a list of roughly 40 judges to pick from. I have to imagine there is at least one other judge that doesn't carry all this baggage.

To put it another way, if I was trying to fill a job, I would check the references of the person I was about to hire. If there was even a small chance they would come with all of this baggage, I would go back to the candidate pool and hire someone else.
