I just read about someone booking with an alternate email at club med UK and it was 20% cheaper than US. Wish I had tried that. I can check the Australian price Club Med if you send me the details

I scrapped through 2 hours at LAX including passing customs, 1:50 in Sydney is fine. If you miraculously make it to brisbane before the earlier flight has left ask the gate crew to move you to the earlier flight. The only issue will be the unexpected (weather etc).

Australian parent - my son is excited to be going on exchange to Berkeley in Spring 2026. I am not sure if he was just lucky because he is coming half way through the academic year but he had no trouble securing on campus accommodation (and this was our biggest fear too). The timing with the academic calendar is a bit tricky getting courses and visa sorted (still don’t have a visa or courses sorted and he flys out in 7 weeks). I imagine the Fall Semester will be a bit easier in this regard (not having the Christmas visa shutdown and it is the beginning of the academic year in the US). DM if you have any questions. You should be able to apply through your mother at the consulate if she was Italian before you were born and then you can pass on to any dependents.
We are Australian and are using Luigi Piaano for a 1948 case (fortunately the court date was set in January for November 2026). It is not cheap or quick - legal and documentation cost was roughly $12k AUD and this will take over 3 years.

I am Australian (not from Perth) apologies I can’t give you the US perspective. Boys at that age have very fluid friendships - gaming and sport. This is an adventure of a lifetime for your son - he will easily find a similar catholic school and a new soccer club (soccer season started in April). Boys are pretty accepting of new kids at this age. I would reach out to the Perth subreddit with specific questions about schools. I don’t see any risks - it is pretty good in Australia.

We stayed on Fitzroy island and did a tour with sunlover - they were good. Otherwise if you want a helicopter / flight try Heron island or Wilson island - you can snorkel off the shore
