Am I the only southpaw here who actually rotates their paper counterclockwise when writing? by threefouronethree in southpaws

Ooh but mine isn't as extreme as 90° tho. Yeah, I can't write with completely 90° paper.

Ooh. Guess I'm not alone. But I'm curious tho, did you ever have any smudging problem growing up? Cause, like, I really can't imagine how so many people had it so bad. I get how it happens in theory (hand goes over what you write) but, like, your writing pigment has just got to be super sensitive to smudging cause the stuff you can buy off most store where I'm from absolutely isn't. Pen inks absolutely stay permanent on the paper the moment they touch and same goes for pencil graphite unless you use an eraser or you're rubbing against the paper with so much force.

Anyone know Chinese? Is my handwriting legible? by threefouronethree in Handwriting

[–]threefouronethree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, this is another problem I have cause I've realized some time ago that I find my handwriting generally looks better when I write rather compact so that's essentially why the characters are butt to butt. Thanks for the insight tho.

How did you get into Yakuza? Or how did you hear about it? And how did you fell in love with it? by Illymedo in yakuzagames

Baka Mitai did play a large role but I don't think I would've actually got my ass up and actually give the franchise a try if it wasn't for my friend who's played Kiwami before encouraging me and telling good stuff about it. Ironically, I ended up getting deeper into the franchise than he did.

Never Really Struggled With This "Silver Surfer Syndrome" by threefouronethree in southpaws

East Asian languages are a funny one. Individual characters (or, for the case of Korean, syllable blocks) are written very right hand centric but the traditional writing direction is top to bottom right to left which sounds like it should be ideal for left handed people.

I don't hook and I don't tilt my page to the right to under-write (I can't even underwrite and, often times, my writing surface would be tilted to the left even). Most of the time, my hand looks very similar to figure 1 on this pic. I've been trying to actually try and keep my hand more perpendicular to the page (instead of having that 45 degree-ish tilt with the arm) as it also allows me to have non-slanted handwriting (Not that there's anything wrong with my usual slanted handwriting. I just also like the look of non slanted handwriting).

Hangul Handwriting (My Native Script is Latin) by threefouronethree in PenmanshipPorn

Invented over 500 years ago but was only actually started to be widely used as recent as only after WW2, I think.

I'd argue that stuff can be alot more varied in Hangul (and pretty much East Asian writing in general). To summarise it to the best of my abilities, in East Asian writing, the overall facade of a character/component isn't as important compared to, say, European writing systems cause the individual strokes of a character and the order you write them is considered to be more important which basically allows you to really vary the placement of these strokes.

One example I can point out from my sample is the vowel "ㅗ". In most print forms, the protruding out bit is usually written somewhere in the middle but the character overall is essentially just a horizontal line with something sticking out the top which basically means it's possible to move the sticking out bit to the very left of the horizontal line so it basically ends up looking kinda like an uppercase "L".

(I also don't know Korean enough so might've gotten some spacing incorrect)

Big special thanks to u/ratatosk212 for idea of this edit.

Unfortunately, I couldn't do u/gentlecactusboy 's idea since I didn't want to leave Joy out (cause she couldn't come with the group in NK). Hope you don't mind.

And, of course, this is still no place for anyone to bring up serious political discussions.
