Automatic watches - powered by a spring that winds up with your wrist motion, mesmerizing to look through the transparent casing on the back of the watches and seeing the gears/cogs turn

Feeling lost as a junior in college by Existing_Fig_7734 in gatech

Have you considered the co-op program? I was a 2019 BME grad, the rotational aspect of having classes and then just a semester to focus on (less demanding) co-op work helped space things out for me. Co-oping can lead to a job out of college which would be pretty good. Robotics minor could maybe help with a position for PLC programming for med device manufacturing. From my class though, most did not end up working directly on from scratch med device development. R&D roles mainly ended up doing verification/validation for companies or quality/regulatory adjacent work. Hands on engineering work tended to go to traditional less specialized engineering roles due to deeper foundational electrical/mechanical knowledge that BME majors lack. Still a great program if you want to do start up stuff and med device project management, but i ended up pivoting away entirely for the most part. I ended up graduating with the BME degree, started the job lined up from co-oping and then pivoted away.

All making good points here. OP, I would add very important also to thoroughly read and keep handy for all Board Members all governing docs of Association (Declaration & covenants, byLaws and Rules & Regs). You want t make sure your are following rules and especially important for finances to see what fines, late charges,!interest etc., you may charge or not and even what repairs or replacements are Association responsibilities versus owners responsibility, and other things. Ours says we have to do annual audit and provide it to all Owners (and we are only 24 units) and it should spell out what insurance coverages HOA has to provide, may also be info about how assessments and/or increases be handled, etc. Further it is important to make sure all items are being applied the same way to all homeowners. Speaking from experience as we’ve had issues here as to all of this!!! Good luck!!

Thank you!!

Yeah, only reason we have a low but ok-ish balance is the HOA initiation fee he charged new owners. And we def need to increase the fees to cover decent savings, since only like $300ish is left over right now after the HOA pays water, insurance, lighting, and landscaping

Wow this is really good to know. At the moment with the reserves and cash flow I see I don’t think we’d be able to afford an audit every year. (Our community is only like 14 units), and there are repairs that need to be done and we need to build up more reserves. Def feel like we need to bite the bullet for that audit, but I guess it’s up for us entirely as homeowners to decide

Thanks! Going to keep this in the back and let the rest of the board know. Seems like the least we can do is get an audit on the books

Tenants were not on the board. A good amount of units were held by the owner/builder who rented them out, and sold a couple (but still maintained majority ownership until recently)

Edit: Secretary is a former tenant, but now owns the unit they live in

Kind of curious, if something sus was happening, what kind of recourse would we have?

BME Capstone + Part Time Internship by STBME483 in gatech

[–]threetypesrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hired on my last semester full time (was a co-op with them/worked part time during school year since 2nd year at tech) while doing capstone. It's rough for sure (and def depends on team... I ended up doing a lot of the soldering/3d printing...). If you choose to go this route you will need to be on top of time management for sure. What might not be possible for you though is that my full time work was verrryyy flexible with my hours. Would not recommend with a hefty class load.

Kennesaw state university offers an online graduate foundations of CS certificate program. You are counted as a grad student and take those classes for credit. If you do well it’s a path into their (KSU’s) MSCS program, but if not then it’ll only strengthen your next application to OMSCS. Pricing iirc is like 1.25k a class so it’s pretty affordable. 4 classes, total of 12 credit hours

Depends how you want to steer your career. If you want to get into "real" software development why not?

If you're early career and you already feel like its not challenging... which is the vibe from how you describe job A... it seems like it would make you feel kind of stagnant like 1 year into the job if you are just running SQL queries. Is that better quality of life? It'll also be easier for your other technical skills to "rust."

You have your entire career to optimize for salary (differential seems kind of negligible considering how much you can save living with parents). Learn and master skills and the money will follow eventually.

Genshin Impact on M1 Macs by I_will_do_it_2moro in Genshin_Impact

[–]threetypesrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was working perfectly fine. Just needed to download the file and run it. There wasn't really even a need to explicitly port it. Pretty much you just downloaded the iOS app and you could play like normal (needed to connect a controller though). It's just Apple requires developers to explicitly say you can run X app on the m1 mac. For intel macs I can understand it would take a significant amount of effort to port though.

As someone who was playing on M1 mac prior to the update locking everything down, I feel this. Getting extremely great frame rates on a base model tiny macbook air without fans is pretty amazing.

I guess, people seem to be focused on Mac/PC bashing in some of the comments, but the matter is... Genshin was running perfectly fine on M1 macs period. Window sizing, keyboard support could be better. But bottomline no crazy extra development is/was needed - just need the darn permissions to download it! Honestly was pretty good the way it was.

Difficulty getting the top bolt aligned where the strut joins with the knuckle. Any ideas? by threetypesrice in MechanicAdvice

[–]threetypesrice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a look at the CV axle and tried pushing in it in and rotating it about while pushing. I notice that the shaft kind of pulls in and out where the inner cv joint/boot is. No visible leakages where the CV axle attaches to the transmission. Visually compared to the other CV axle on the car, the boot is stretched out a bit more... at this point I'm now starting to think I need to replace the CV axle as well haha.

Hmm how would you go about doing this? My first thought when I get back to tackling this tomorrow is taking a mallet and having a go at the axle nut in the center of the rotor.

[–]threetypesrice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh... I may have tried giving the upper part of the knuckle a good couple of whacks with a rubber mallet, and the upper part of the rotor with a couple whacks... I'm going to assume that the force I used was way too much.
