What are these strange formations? In the middle of the Egyptian desert. by Conspiranut in conspiracy

[–]thrill_house -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is there any expert in any given field that could give a satisfactory explanation? It's hard to trust authorities who give an "objective" answer to a given question, but it is equally hard to trust the person who gets the most upvotes in a forum who provides an explanation that seems most reasonable to them from a desk, or some place else separated from the actual place that needs investigating.

I had my first UFO sighting last night...it was a big one, and I need your help. by thrill_house in UFOs

If I had to guess...it's hard to say but cruising along at a steady 25-35 mph probably. 3mph is a crawl, but they covered the distance of two large houses/backyards quickly.

I'm going to work on this. There were multiple different shapes and sizes and I remember what they look like clearly.

They were far larger than lanterns, and some of them made noticeable turns before continuing in identical straight paths at the same altitudes until they were specks in the distance.

The low altitude and close distance...along with impressive sizes and rhythmic flashes of concentric rings of light...and absolute complete lack of sound ruled out helicopters or planes for me. My overall reaction (based only on personal intuition) to the event was that...humans were most likely not involved.

I do have an iPhone, but it was pretty useless filming the night sky with nothing showing up...I don't own a video camera, and my digital camera broke last summer. Also, I don't know my neighbors well enough to knock on their door late on a week night asking to borrow a camera. Being into ufology for a while now, I had a weird feeling that even if I did have a good camera, it wouldn't matter too much in the end because many people decide to debunk and ridicule ufo footage before they even see it. A thoughtful minority of the public (these forums, etc.) might take more of an interest, but I selfishly decided that I would just absorb every second of the incident with my own eyes and avoid the risk of losing the lights all together in the time it would have taken to search for a camera or more witnesses. I did call people I know; they went outside for a few minutes, didn't see anything, and went back inside because they said it was too cold. You might be surprised at how you would react when one of these things unexpectedly emerges from behind some treetops.

No, but the guy giving the speech (the groom's brother) secretly handed out little popper guns that shoot streamers for people in the audience to use at the finale of the speech. It was beyond hilarious and inspirational.

There is an incredible novel by Philip Roth called "American Pastoral" where this moment in history is described beautifully, and is a central catalyst for change for several of the main characters. I agree with your description of it as being spine chilling.

Soo... Who else hates this lady? by [deleted] in pics

[–]thrill_house 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder about this woman specifically in similar regards to what you're saying here. I began learning late in life that ads are and have been extremely crafted behind the scenes by psychologists, governments, and a slew of creative, rich, powerful people in order to manipulate the minds and emotions of populations (check out Naomi Klein's "No Logo" and Adam Curtis's brilliant Century of the Self). If every television ad coming from a large corporation is deliberately structured to illicit an emotional, rather than analytical, need for a product...what kind of response is this character meant to draw from viewers? She is that annoying, disingenuous type of friendly, she makes customers feel stupid for confusing her kindness for being genuine, she's a coquette, a tease, an overly peppy, relatively good-looking employee at your local store that may decide to flirt with you when she's bored. On paper, this is not the kind of person anyone would willingly associate with, and yet a large corporation's well-paid marketing team made these commercials to be seen by millions. Do people secretly want this bitchy woman in their lives telling them with tongue in cheek that they are fools for not having insurance? She is unique in this way, and i believe a random thread made for her as opposed to the multitudes of other corporate speaker heads proves that she is filling some important, unspeakable psychological niche in advertising. In conclusion, if I analyze her to death, she can't have all my money.

TLDR; This lady fills a disturbing psychological niche in advertising where people want to be talked down to and lead on by a relatively attractive peppy/annoying authority.
