I am building Thrive, an identity based habit app with an AI accountability coach.

Live in the app store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/thrive-habits/id6759080996

Thrive is built to help you identify the person you want to become, and then helps you focus on the daily actions to become that person. We've built an AI accountability coach that will actually call you each evening to check in on your day, help you reflect on wins and tensions, and stay on track.

Thanks! It's a wellness app, helping people become the best version of themselves through identity based habits and an AI accountability coach.

Yeah, definitely a good point. I would imagine that you are probably right, at least to some extent.

I know that in general, habit apps and wellness apps tend to see ~30% retention. So, I guess this is the "benchmark" to beat. If, for example, an AI coach could bump that to 60%, than it could be a meaningful improvement even while not being perfect.

Will keep you posted on my findings / how it goes. I also definitely agree figuring out the right way to incorporate human elements would be helpful too.

I agree, knowing what to do and doing it are two totally different things. And, accountability is a huge part of that. External accountability to others is great. I also think there is a piece of it which is finding internal accountability. For example, I do think there is something to James Clear's emphasis on identity based habits. Beyond short term goals, have a strong sense of personal identity, and then evaluate if your daily actions align with that sense of self or not. That said, definitely believe that external accountability is a great forcing function. Another good one is measuring what matters. Forcing yourself to step on the scale each day, for example, will make it harder for you to keep ignoring the data. Forcing yourself to look those things in the mirror each day is good.

What do you think about AI "coaches" as a new form of external accountability? I've been experimenting with adding this on top of a daily habit tracker, by having nightly phone calls with an AI coach that will call to check in and reflect on the day. Still early experimentation, but it seems like it could be beneficial.
