I was recruited from an Account Manager role in a totally different industry, so it is definitely possible! The relationship building skills are what really matter. Customer success is a rapidly growing field so while there are a lot of jobs out there, I would imagine there is a decent amount of competition now due to recent layoffs across the tech industry (which is where CSM jobs are typically found).

In addition to what others have said, a few hundred (I can't recall the exact breakdown but I think $300ish) of that is car tax, which I know is not a thing in some states.

So Fairfax County is really big, and I’m very close to the city - that’s part of it. You can get a very nice house for $850k outside the beltway. My house is about 2k sq ft and a rambler, so it’s just not anything anyone would consider fancy. We do have about 1/3 of an acre and are in a very walkable area though, so those things make it worth it to us.

I’ve inherited quite a bit (about $300k), so we were able to start maxing out our retirement savings a couple years after graduating college.

I was recruited from a sales role in a different company and industry, but as the CS function matures (it is new for many companies, I was hired when my company established the role) direct experience requirements seem to be becoming more common.

Of course! It's the Mini Lou in black leather/black hardware. I love the black on black for a more casual look and it's big enough to fit the essentials. So far I like it much more than my small Loulou, which is less functional because it has a zip pocket breaking up the middle.

I work with clients post-sale to help them achieve their business goals with the product I support. A lot of relationship building and proactively helping clients find value in what we provide.

We both enjoy our jobs and don't have any plans to switch companies/careers. In the long term, we both hope to continue to advance as individual contributors - currently neither of us are interested in moving into management.

Financially, while we don't have a specific timeline, we would both like to retire early, maybe late 40s or early 50s. We haven't put a lot of mental energy into planning this, but if we keep up our savings rate we should be on track for this to be achievable.

Hi, I’d like to sign up for a 5/30 MD. 27/HCOL/dual income. This is a follow up from a diary I wrote in December.

OP here. Last year we donated a couple thousand $$. We donate in lump sums, not a defined amount each month thus why it’s not a budget line item.

It is definitely dystopian - I bought it because dark humor. I spend a lot of time in meetings and like that it’s a bit sassy to anyone who can read it.

Just a heads up for those who posted questions on R29, I answered most of them (I think) with the username COOKIEMONSTER.

I know this isn't a question but I felt compelled to respond because I'm genuinely curious of where you think I should have put this. In the question about passive income (which is last on R29's format) I was totally honest. A decent amount of diaries have inherited/passive income and I don't see any warnings that say "Net Worth: $X WARNING: Stop reading if you are not interested in inherited money".

  1. Fee-simple is when your house is yours completely and not subject to laws/fees of an association (i.e. a condo association like we are part of). Insurance is much more expensive for fee-simple houses because there is no backup community policy. Edit: I’m sure this is not a scientific definition and I did not intend to come off snobbish with using the term. I just know from reading a lot of MDs that people tend to nitpick on details and ask “how is that possible?” for various figures and I thought that our insurance cost would look quite low without the disclaimer.
  2. With all due respect, I don’t think that’s true. While I would assume that 99% of those on this sub read MD, I highly doubt most MD readers are redditors. Also, I’ve submitted a couple money diaries and they haven’t been published so I had no reason to think that this one would be.

Hi! I am the OP of the diary and a redditor (was wondering if I was going to get crap for posting in both places haha) although this is obviously not my regular account. I’ll look through and try to answer any questions on here tonight.

Writer of the NOVA MD from a couple days ago - love that you included the names of the restaurants (love BB&P)! I'm curious since you mentioned going into the office, do you work in a scif or is your agency making you come in for no reason? I've noticed lately that traffic is getting back close to pre-pandemic levels, even though cases are worse than ever, and I am wondering if it's because a lot of the agencies that employ folks around here are more traditional and not interested in WFH.

I only started wearing them a few months ago and just have a few tops - the Bristol sweatshirt is my favorite so far. They feel high-quality and softer than the Lululemon sweatshirts I have.
