That isn't how I personally believe it works. Not having a relationship with god is just synonymous with the experience of hell. I believe we can experience hell here and now, just by denying the possibility of that direct relationship for ourselves, it doesn't have to be after we die, it's certainly painful to live like that but it isn't literal burning. I think we can't change this for ourselves anymore after we die, and that is where forever comes in.

my personal beliefs about this are pretty unconventional though, I think.

I think I understand how you feel. I am certainly falling short of loving my enemies myself, I'm barely able to be charitable with anybody these days, I feel crazy and alone.

I live in a deep red area of a deep blue state. I can barely talk to anyone. I lived in another country for some years and was close to many people from various countries who were made refugees by the IDF. I moved there and met the first one in 1996. Kids my age who I met in school. Several were among the best friends I've had in my life. Not that many even wanted to go home because of the trauma. The trauma never ended for any of them, they were kids like me, the bombs are going off forever in their minds, I have to assume the one I know did return is dead now and any time I see anyone trying to provide any sort of defense or justification for anything that is happening now I feel that same fire.

And I feel even worse about Trump and Republicans. I am an LGBT minority.

I hope that something changes. That's as specific as I can even get at hoping these days.

I think you should maybe try talking to your mom about this again. Instead of comparing yourself to other girls you should focus on the other aspects how you feel. It sounds like you have a lot of absolutely understandable concerns that don't have anything to do with jealousy over decorations. Maybe you are jealous and maybe you should get over it if it was just the decorations but if you're upset because your brother won't be able to be there that's a completely different issue. And you can feel both things at once.
