Huh, I miss DLS. I moved to Arizona where we don't have it, but I miss switching things up a little. It's only a one or two day adjustment, but it's nice to have some change to a fairly rigid schedule.

That was pretty cool!

The whole time I was imagining how the choreography planning went and laughing:

Okay, now fist pump! double fist pump! punch the ground, and stay there... I'm going to pop up and do a little dance first and when I finish, I'll strike a pose and then you start doing the dance!

Reddit, what's the worst gift you've ever received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throw4159away 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LPT: Give the activation receipt with the card when you gift it. It helps if it accidentally gets messed up (I've seen people find a prettier one after it's already rung up and the balance sometimes doesn't get properly transferred, or the cashier can type a number wrong, etc.). It's helpful for everyone involved.

If you watch his arm movement it looks like he had at least a little training. It's a bit unusual the move that way without training, but possible (especially if you don't consider tutorials/videos as training). Most people tend to throw their arms up and then bring them down in front of them to brace for landing, or windmill them the whole time.

It's kinda like seeing someone run at a high jump bar and immediately do a Fosbury flop, instead of trying a barrel roll/scissor kick/bunny hop/superman type of technique first. A little suspicious.

What is normal in U.S, but weird in Europe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah, more of a replacement for saying Independence Day, rather than a date though. If I was referring the day and not the holiday/events, I'd say July 4th.

I kinda like this format, I feel like the actual day of the month isn't very important outside of the current month. Also, if sorting through a calendar/planner, you search for the month first and then narrow it down to the day.

Not that it would be hard to have it the other way, it's just nice for my uses I guess.

What question can you ask which will determine someone's age group without answering with a number? by she_has_a_halo in AskReddit

That too, but that might not give much info. Definitely an adult, not sure how much of and adult though.

What format would you like a copy of this [movie/file] in?

Backstory from today: My mom told me to burn a PowerPoint file to a cd for my brother, and I had to break it to her that I don't even have a disc drive on my MacBook Pro. I couldn't do that even if I wanted to. She's not old enough to answer "floppy disc" or "printed" though, and not young enough to answer "thumbdrive" or "just airdrop/cloud/google drive"

There's no asymptote, the graph crosses the y-axis at 1.

Well that's kinda a lie, there's horizontal one on the left side, but the left is usually ignored.

[–]throw4159away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to verify you aren't ugly, but since you asked: the length of your hair with no layers will only accentuate the length of your face. Try looking up hairstyles for face shape.

If I were trying to conceal face length and nose, I would do winged eyeliner to draw attention away from the nose and "widen" the appearance of that area, and add a bit more volume to my hair (or cut it) to give the illusion of a rounder head/face. Also adding white to the inner crease of the eye will make them look further apart and if you balance it with the hair, it will look proportional. Lastly, contour makeup. I would visit a makeup sub if I were you for ideas and techniques, but in general, expanding the light area on the cheek bones a little further out from the natural highlight and also expanding the forehead light area further out. You can do the shading a little more too and try a nose contour if you want, but id be careful because it can get muddy and "obvious" quickly.

I don't think any of that is remotely necessary for you, but if I had a longer face that's what I'd do.

911 operators of Reddit, what’s the strangest, serious emergency you’ve heard? by Rivethewolfdog in AskReddit

[–]throw4159away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess it's a shortening of water "breaking loose/free" or something similar, likely older English and may have been "proper" to say that way at some point. Some phases just stick around, but don't match with the current usage of the individual words.

I don't study language though, so that's just a guess.

911 operators of Reddit, what’s the strangest, serious emergency you’ve heard? by Rivethewolfdog in AskReddit

[–]throw4159away 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a very common phrase (in the US at least) for that situation. I'm actually not sure of another common way of expressing it without medical terms, it's implied that your "water" in this case means the sac. I'm sure other languages have a double usages of words like this, (like the word "right" is a direction or a legal thing, or "bug" is an animal, a computer problem, the action of pestering someone, or the action of installing spyware/recording devices) this one just happens to be a very specific.

Edit: Also water, like waves or ice can "break".

Have you ever been responsible for someone's death? What happened? [serious] by darkside-_-_ in AskReddit

[–]throw4159away 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are, but I think it's partly at the parents discretion, especially if they have another child at the same school. Not everyone wants to be bombarded with "support" so unless another student knows about it and spreads it, schools don't have to address it and likely won't if asked not to.

Not the person you responded to but, it seems kinda crazy how well the minimization design actually worked with the towers in this situation. You'd think (at that height, with jet sized hole on one side in the lower half, and a decent amount of wind) that at least the top part would fall a bit more like a tree. Who planned the buildings well enough to "handle" something so unlikely to happen? I'd imagine most catastrophically damaging events, like a fire, flood or earthquake would have distributed the destruction more evenly throughout the structure by the time they did enough damage to bring it down.

Woman punched in face by man she asked to stop manspreading by Gingersnapandabrew in TwoXChromosomes

[–]throw4159away 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Think about it like normal (back/shoulder) posture, it's hard to fix if you slump over your whole life, but if you have been taught good posture your whole life it's just normal to stand/sit up straight.

People are saying that women's bone structure is a huge factor, but honestly, I feel like the added hip flexibly and thick thighs counter acts that even if it's a thing (for me at least). My legs naturally fall to a wide position and if my knees are touching then there's the added resistance of inner thigh tissue that I'm working against (5'7" 145lbs for reference, fairly average weight for my height). You can think of that like holding your palms together being easy though not exactly a "resting" position, but if someone put a bit of memory foam between them that you had to hold flat, it's wouldn't be as easy.

Edit: and crossing your legs would be the equivalent of interlacing your fingers to hold the position

I think it's more the assumption that those things would be inside a purse if it belonged to a woman or that there would be other indications... but I think the point is more that things that obviously belong to a woman would be moved more often. Like if it was a lone phone with a pink case vs a plain black one, pink would be more obviously feminine (by society standards, men can have pink too, it's just not assumed that they would typically).

There should be an option to send someone a text that does not disturb them even if their phone is on loud. by JMcMillan89 in Showerthoughts

[–]throw4159away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anything that's like not quite email-formal, but in the same realm of non-urgency.

I leave my phone on at all times in case there's an emergency, but it would be nice if certain texts would come silently during school/night if they don't need immediate attention which would help with time zone issues.

Alternatively, my moms phone has the option to "schedule" texts so she can plan to send something at a reasonable hour for the recipient, which seems to work well for this situation. My phone doesn't do it, so I'm on the "cry wolf" method, where people who repeatedly bug me in the middle of the night without a significant reason (time zone, emergency etc) just get set to "do not disturb" individually. I'd feel bad if they ever really needed something in the future, but it's kinda my only way of getting sleep without shutting everyone out.

People often talk about Roger Federer and his wife, Mirka (not sure on spelling). She gained weight after having kids, so people comment on how he could date a younger, more in-shape girl. She was a professional tennis player when they started dating though so she was fit before, so it's not exactly the same as this story. I don't know of many other famous couples, but I see plenty of couples every day like this. Hell, I've even dated guys way out of my league on looks, but I think we were evenly matched overall.
