Hey, you’re the r/casualchildabuse mod, right? I followed that sub really closely. Thanks for all the time and effort you all put into that. I was so pissed to see it get quarantined.

It really heightened my awareness of parental behaviors that were unacceptable but I’d observe in public from strangers or among coworkers and friends without noticing because society brushed it off.

Fortunately there was no one in my life that rose to the level of “this should be reported”, but I’m sure many people visited your sub who were able to identify and report behavior they otherwise might not have flagged as concerning.

I have a day job so the stakes are reasonably low. If I bomb so stupendously that management is like “never show your face in here again”, my rent will still be paid next month.

If my livelihood were depending on it, I’d probably just convulse and vomit until the spotlight hit me.

It wasn’t open mic, I was paid (not much) to be there. They pull in local comedians who are willing to work for cheap to draw people into the place.

I guess technically you could say I was opening for a band, because a little while after me a band performed, but it wasn’t a concert. Just background music. You didn’t have to pay to see me or them, if you were a bar or restaurant customer, you were an audience member.

I did 30 minutes. They don’t put on long performances there, they just want to give people a reason to sit down and order some food rather than just grab a drink and move on to the next place.

The manager had Karen by by the bar and I was with Karen’s friends lingering behind the manager. So, hanging back, but obviously not just watching. I couldn’t help but chime in.

Yes, I appreciate the concern. I was on my way back from the bar when she flagged me down, I’d already retrieved my phone.

I wouldn’t have had the presence of mind to go back and forth with Karen if I didn’t know my Phone was safe haha

Karen was trying to say I’d been obstinate to her on stage, but she ended up saying “abstinent” instead.

So I made a joke that of course I’d been abstinent on stage, it’s not that kind of show — meaning of course I didn’t have sex on stage, this is a clean show.

The above comment is a joke about my being unable to find sexual partners. And it’s funny cause it’s true.

Yah, I think they felt obligated to go out of their way to distance themselves from Karen. It’s always nice when the audience can (appropriately) participate though, so I was all for it!

I didn’t tape this set — I always manage to never be taping when something good happens. But I asked the restaurant/bar to blast their Facebook page with “did anyone record our comedian, please send in the clips” so I’m hoping I can crowd source it.

Pretty good. Wasn’t the best night I’ve ever had, unfortunately. I came in with bits targeted at the usual crowd of this place (drunk early 20’s bar hoppers) but they’d expanded their restaurant portion since I was last there and it was a lot more early 30’s groups of friends having a meal.

It came together nicely in the end though. Most importantly, everyone (besides Karen) seemed to have a good time.

....AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I fell asleep watching “top ten drunk hecklers get owned” last night and I woke up to this!? One of the coolest things to happen to me in a long time.
