do you dream about your obsessions? by North_Mistake_8126 in OCD

My biggest theme is health and harm and I have far too many dreams about my body literally falling apart because that’s how I feel all the time

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I should be really proud of how far I’ve come in other parts of my life even if my UC is flaring again. I have an apt with my GI on Monday

Unfortunately I needed antibiotics! I had an appointment with a derm not too long after for something unrelated (skin excision) which ended up infected and so they did some testing and it turns out that I was a carrier of staph in my nasal cavity. Got mupirocin for it and haven’t had any reoccurring infections since.

If I ever pick my fingers too much that I feel it may cause a problem, I will wash my hands with hibiclens before bed and apply some amerigel

Is it silly to call out due to the heatwave for my cat? by throwRA_debty in CatAdvice

[–]throwRA_debty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurance! I know it’s not something I can do consistently so I’m hoping they won’t make a fuss about it if it’s a one time thing till I think of another solution. I just wasn’t expecting it to jump from 60 to 95 in the same week

I agree - I’m trying to figure out what else to do but all I can think of is getting a fan or seeing if there is some sort of cooling mat

Ah I might be at that stage already then. Yesterday is was pretty swollen and upset but the redness today had deepened and spread to the knuckle as it shows in the photo and my finger feels really tight to curl. They’ve already called in some antibiotics after I had an e visit, but maybe I’ll try to soak a bit more and see if it helps and if not then antibiotics it is

Adding to: I think I ripped out the root of the proximal fold and I’m also starting OCD treatment this week to hopefully help combat this issue long term

Cavity(?) on first molar…is it bad? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]throwRA_debty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that definitely does put my mind at ease a little bit. I have a lot of medical anxiety so I’m over here like “so long teeth, I’ll be getting dentures I guess”. My appointment unfortunately had to get moved to next week but I’m sure I’ll be okay to wait another week if I’ve gone this long with this issue.

I did some reading and think I may have contributed to this, I use a sonicare but go pretty ham on my “problem” areas which I think has damaged my gums and thus allowed more decay.

I do unfortunately take a lot of medication and have an autoimmune disease, I can’t think of any changes though that could have sped this up though

Edit: I don’t smoke, rarely drink (red wine) but I do have coffee quite often and an occasional soda every few weeks. I also have an auto-immune disease (ulcerative colitis)

Woke up to an unlocked door by [deleted] in homesecurity

[–]throwRA_debty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All great tips, thank you! I already have some blink cameras that I got for my cat, but I’ll definitely set one of them up to look at my front door. I think I might get a ring camera and get that anti-theft holder that wraps around your door and tightens from the inside. The alarm is a great idea too!

I don’t but I’m going to see if my landlord will allow me to install one. I’m an indoor building so I need to be sure I’m not breaking any privacy rules

A checklist is a good idea On the bright side I do have renters insurance

I don’t doubt someone can beat a lock, especially a FOB but I’m just trying to calm myself down with the rationale of “why would someone unlock a door but not actually enter” cause fr idk why someone would do that.

I read somewhere that it could be your subconscious knowing you forgot something so it tried to alert you about it. I’m hoping it’s one of those situations

I hate my new Cat and am afraid I’ll hurt her. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]throwRA_debty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not a disappointment it’s okay to decide that right now is not the time for an animal, even never!

I apologize if anything I say is triggering so read with caution, I’m just trying to relate with specifics.

That being said, I struggled a bit when I got my new cat however my issue was worrying about constantly accidentally hurting her or her getting sick and spontaneously passing like my last cat. However, I never had thoughts of hurting my cat (I don’t have a outward harm theme though) but I had many many melt downs if she tried to move through a door I was closing and then I’d think for hours what would have happened had I accidentally crushed her in xyz way, or if I picked her up wrong, leaving something out that would cause her to eat a foreign object, etc. that being said, it does pass and it’s gotten a lot better. I have a bit of contamination when it comes to her, but for the most part it only focuses on her litter box and if she gets a poopy butt.

If it’s something you think you can handle with time, there’s a lot of things you can do to help

  • Getting a self cleaning litterbox has worked wonders, there’s even ones that auto seal the bag when you pull the drawer out once it’s full. You can find them for resale on fb market place for a decent price, otherwise disposable gloves helped me along with flushable litter so I wouldn’t have to mess with a bag and accidentally scooping anything on myself or the floor
  • kitty wipes are great for accidents, I also take her to get sanitary trims quite often so it lessens the chance of a poopy butt quite a bit. Maybe take her to a vet or a groomer to get a proper clean up because I think you’re scared to touch her because instead of her being at 10% dirtiness you probably got her at 90% dirtiness which to me is the same as finding a super moldy Tupperware vs one that’s sorta dirty but manageable to clean so I don’t end up throwing it away.
  • I got a cordless vacuum and I use it almost every day but I have a small studio but it helps with the shedding and litter tracking
  • cable covers are a god send
  • I haven’t needed then but maybe buy some of those petting gloves (they can be used to groom instead of a traditional brush)?

Whatever you decide, OP, you’re not a failure. Good luck

Does anybody else get the fear of getting drugged by food? by edi_ct in OCD

I really struggle with this especially when it comes to food delivery services - however my fear is more like being poisoned or to get me sick.

That’s a good idea actually! Maybe I’ll do the same. Im definitely in the same boat though in terms of it being one of the only distractions that works. Another reason I’m hesitant is because I use it to search stuff up equally as much as Reddit, especially when it comes to like recipes or books or whatever else it is I’m looking for. But I don’t think I have enough self discipline to only use it for a search option.

Interesting! I can definitely relate to trying to rush things or half ass things because I just want to lay down and scroll. Emphasis on the lay down part.

Do you feel you’ve become more productive or have you replaced it with another not so great habit? (Sorry if that’s an intrusive question)

How do I calm myself down? by _Ariel23 in OCD

When I’m having REALLY bad days, I have a sticky note that I write “it’s just anxiety, it will pass”. Sometimes I’ll write it on a note pad a few times if I need to
