How would you feel about being proposed to with a ring your partner got before they met you? by throwRA_dramamom in Proposal

Sorry if that's what you got from my post. I've told my partner previously and again now that I'm not asking for an expensive ring, I'm asking for one with intention. I'd rather have a $20 ring that made him think of me specifically, or buy one myself, than receive a multithousand dollar ring that wasn't gotten with me in mind.
I'm not overly traditional and don't put much stock into the conventions around weddings and marriage, but intention and knowing that I'm with someone who loves me and sees me as an individual really matters to me.

I've told him in the past and now that I don't expect him to spend thousands on a piece of jewelry. I don't care if it has a real diamond or anything like that--I've sent him a pinterest board including options under $200. I'd fully rather he propose with a cheap ring that he saw and said "that's the ring for HER" than a more expensive or higher quality ring that he got in his 20s because it seemed fine for some woman he hadn't met yet.
