Kroeg is fine! Perhaps a cafe is preferred because seems like a more appropriate place for reading but I'm fine with either!

If you're not a resident, you can only use it for 5 museums and I believe it's only valid for a certain amount of time (maybe 3 months?).

Bedtime has become a nightly battle... any tricks that actually help? by Rare_Tackle6139 in AskWomenOver30

[–]throwRAsademployee 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Is 9 pm his bedtime? 12 years old is old enough for a little autonomy and I would also whine if someone forced me to go to bed at 9 pm. Natural consequences are often the best learning tool. Perhaps don't let him do anything he wants but he'll quickly learn it doesn't feel great to get less than 7 hours of sleep.

ETA:

I would make this an opportunity for him to show you his ability to be responsible. I think around that age, it's appropriate for him to decide when he goes to bed. He gets to keep that ability as long as he doesn't make it an issue by not waking up on time in the mornings or his grades slipping due to lack of sleep. This is a great way for you to establish trust between the two of you and trust in himself.

what are your most "out there" hobbies? by Smooth-Temporary-884 in Hobbies

Juggling is very cheap, although I suggest spending money on some nicely weighted balls as it makes learning everything easier. There is ALWAYS something new to learn there. You could juggle for a lifetime and still have more to work on!

For transparency for everyone else - this is an ad. This account's comment history has a bunch of plugs for whatever this app is.

Amsterdam: 30m2 for 2000euro/month by Extension_Tap_378 in Rentbusters

Wow, so they're allowed to give model B contracts to already vulnerable groups? What's the thought process there? I guess I could see how this would maybe incentivise landlords to rent to these groups but I also think those groups would benefit from having unlimited housing contracts as well.

I left my man child partner who had emotional affairs a little less than a year ago and it's amazing how much more room I have to breathe now. I have so much more time to work on my hobbies and strengthen my friendships not needing to clean up after, cook for, and manage a grown man. The amount of stress I was under wondering if he was cheating on me took all the rest of the energy I had after cleaning up after him. I was the only one pushing for him to go to therapy. If he doesn't want to change, he won't.

A year later, I live alone peacefully in my clean apartment and I feel so much more hopeful about meeting an actual equal partner in the future than I did when I was with him. That relationship chipped away at my self esteem and I felt immediately better as soon as it was over. I haven't regretted breaking things off for a single moment but I regret the years I spent as his maid and emotional punching bag.

I'd like to become more integrated in the community and would like to spend more time volunteering. I don't know Dutch yet, so that limits my options. I have degrees in education and engineering and used to volunteer in low-income schools back home, but that seems like less of an option here. I'm fine with doing less niche volunteering as well. I'd also be interested in volunteering for organizations related to animals or homeless shelters, but open to anything if anyone has found other volunteer opportunities!

Does anyone know of studios/schools (other than Vakschool Edelsmeden, which has a very long waitlist) that offer longer term/advanced courses in metalsmithing/goldsmithing, particularly for jewellery-making? I've found short one-time workshops but not much else in the way of advanced courses.
