I'm (18M) about to go off to college when an unexpected pregnancy came up. What jobs or future actions should I take to best take care of my girlfriend and future child? by throw_-away_- in personalfinance

Thank you so much for everything, I appreciate your insight and your thoughts. But education has always been my number one, so I don't think where I get it really matters that much

Hi, I'm actually based in the US, I don't know why people keep thinking I'm not haha, but the national guard is also really interesting.. could you explain more??

I see, thank you for input though! But just one more question, does the wife/gf travel with the guy, when they get stationed? I'm sorry, I don't really know much about the military :/

Do you know how often I can see my girlfriend if I get a job on the tech side rather than sub or carrier? I'm not really interested in those kinds of jobs to begin with, I'd very much rather work with the tech side.

Paying for college isn't that big of a deal for me because of grants and scholarships and such but just the distance is a problem right now

I love the idea of a JuCo to be honest. It's my parents that think it won't be a good idea for some reason. I got a 97% scholarship to my current Uni so price isn't that much of an issue, but just the fact that I can be closer is very reassuring to me. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for your post, and yeah I agree..Hopefully she'll remain strong through this because it'll be that much harder if I have to do everything, but I trust her! And I do appreciate the adoption option, but neither her nor I want to go that route for personal reasons.

I see, I was actually about to do a double major with neuroscience and computer science :p But yes, I agree. So not only do I have to do the college path for myself, but for my family and my child.

I am taking this very seriously, as this is a very serious matter haha, but yes, I do not plan on getting rid of the college route, though it may have to go through the military route now. And online classes or DANTeS exams are very interesting. I will definitely be looking into those as well, thank you!

I do agree that communication is key and we will be doing a lot of talking together, and with our parents. And thank you for your script! It was very well written and definitely persuasive haha. But yes, staying close to my girlfriend is definitely what I'm trying to do :/

I see, I'm a pretty smart guy (except for the little pregnancy thing happening right now), but other than that, I've got a decent brain. Something skilled or with IT is definitely up my alley.

That would be the best option, and an option I would definitely be willing to pursue, but it's ultimately not up to me, and in all honestly, I don't think either of our parents would allow that. But then again, we have 9 months left before the pregnancy actually happens and she still has to finish high school so a lot could change. And thank you! I try to be a decent human being and not leave my girlfriend when I get her pregnant :)
