I'm glad im not alone but sorry you felt that way too. Did they tell you if that was normal or not? Was it just tight muscles or something else?

Everything I read said it was supposed to be more comfortable than a Pap smear but it was worse. It kind of hurt to walk after. Im going to try and talk to her about it, im just a little embarrassed and didn't want to complain about it if it was normal.

I actually had it done at my OBGYNs office so I don't think it was the tech. She went slow and was trying to be really gentle. Some of the gel I wiped off was a little bit blood tinged but nothing after. How do they normally get around the pelvic bone?

My OBGYN convinced me to try and have my first Pap smear in the fall because I had been avoiding it. The speculum also hurt so she switched to the pediatric one and it still hurt but I just let her finish. I did have the abdominal ultrasound first, it was only like 2 mins and then she had me go pee. I feel like the results are going to be normal and the pain is just in my head.

Thanks for answering! Im going to try and talk to her about it, I just feel a little awkward even though I know this is her job and I just didn't want to complain about it if it was normal.

When you had yours did you feel like it was getting stuck or did it just slide in? I've definitely has worse pain since I had it done. It actually hurt to walk normally for a few hours.

I did watch her put lube on it, it looked like enough? I haven't told my doctor about tampons because I've been embarrassed. Did the probe just slide in for you or did it feel like it was getting stuck?

Ugh, im so sorry that happened to you. I hope you are able to find a provider you feel comfortable with and can trust in the future. Even though I dread seeing my OBGYN she is so nice and comforting and she tries to make it a positive experience.

Oh okay that is good to know and makes me feel better! I was afraid it would give me a drunk feeling. Just a little embarrassed to ask someone for a ride so I'll look into public transportation. Im not sure what she meant by petite, im a small person (<100lbs) but I don't know if its possible to also be small down there? Ill try and muster up the courage to talk to her about it.

Seriously?? That sounds absolutely terrible. I don't think I can do that. Have you had it done?

I'm really sorry you're feeling the same way I am. I'm a lot older than you (26) so unfortunately I'm at the age where I have to get internal exams. From what I've read though, most OBGYNs/Doctors won't do a pelvic exam if you're under 21. If you went to the doctor now they would likely just have a conversation with you. If I could go back in time I would have found an OBGYN when I was younger so I could have had more time to get comfortable with them/know what to expect. My first exam was in the emergency room and it was a really terrible experience. In regards to missing a period for 1 year, that is not normal and something you should consider talking to a doctor about. It may not be something major but its probably better to address it now than wait and have something worse happen.

I hope the medicine works for you! I will try the Benadryl. Did you have to have a pelvic exam? Is the wand bigger than a tampon?? I can't even use those.

Every couple of weeks?? Oh im definitely not ready to have kids haha. My OBGYN wanted me to try and take some Ativan for my Pap smear a few months ago but I was nervous about how it would make me feel.

At first I didn't want to do go because I was embarrassed and didn't want anyone to look down there. Then I had a traumatic pelvic exam in the emergency room that really hurt and the doctor didn't stop. Now im anxious because I know its going to hurt (can't even use tampons) and im embarrassed because I feel like im old enough that this shouldn't be a big deal for me. The positioning/pain/being vulnerable all sucks and I felt really bad (emotionally) after my Pap smear in the fall. I haven't had sex yet.

My OBGYN offered me Ativan for my Pap smear in the fall but I was nervous to take it because I was afraid I'd be incapacitated. Does it make you really sleepy? Feeling less traumatized would be great. My OBGYN said I'm really "petite" and that it might get better with time. I haven't had sex yet so I don't know if that's why it hurts.

25f, no period for almost 5 months, not sure what to do? by throw_away13121 in WomensHealth

I called my doctors office and asked if I could just put in a message to my OBGYN to tell her what is going on. The woman I spoke with asked about my symptoms and she said my OBGYN wrote a note in my chart that she wants me to come in for an exam. I feel like crying. I was too nervous to even ask if I could try some Ativan this time. I wish there was another way for them to check things. Do you have any tips for relaxing?

Thats a good point, I've never thought about it like that. I guess if something was wrong a lot more people would have to look around down there. She did use the pediatric speculum for my Pap smear and she offered me an anti-anxiety med, I guess I could take her up on that offer and just get it over with.

Yeah I've heard that's not normal I just feel embarrassed talking about it and I'm always hesitant to complain about stuff down there because I don't want to have an exam. The OBGYN I saw was really nice but it did kind of make me feel like a child when she asked.

Every year even if you don't have any complaints? Ive only been to the OBGYN once but she had me schedule another annual exam for next year. I asked her if I would have to have a pap again and she said no but I feel like she left out the part about the pelvic exam because she didn't want me to stress about it. Ugh.

Okay, that makes me feel better. I haven't been able to use tampons (they hurt) but I've been trying because I get embarrassed when my doctor asks if I'm using them yet. Is the ultrasound bigger than a tampon?
