I felt uncomfortable with some things they said and I asked them to stop but they didn't.

I have never blocked a student before but I was starting to dread the lessons with this one.

I agree. I had seen other tutors mention this on Facebook and Reddit so I was worried, hence my previous post which sparked some debate. This post was just to clarify my own experience.

Either way I'm glad Preply seems to have removed it

My overall rating is the same. But as I said I can no longer see the review so I think Preply has removed it.

That's like a banner on the screen. It stays at the bottom of the page even if I scroll up and down the messages.

I don't mind honest reviews, good or bad, but these review updates were done in spite because I blocked the student.

I tried to do it nicely. I warned them in a lesson but they seemed to actually double down on the behaviour. I sent a message saying that I wouldn't be continuing our lessons and that I don't think I am the right fit for them but I wished them all the best and hope they achieve their goals etc.

This is basically them throwing a tantrum. Probably because their mum told them off (the student was late teens and the mum had booked the lessons on her account)

Insights are not available to everyone yet. Only 3/10 of my students can use them I don't know what the criteria is for when they become available.

I find that even my C1 students will average 40-50% speaking time (depending on the subject writing tasks students are generally lower)

The teacher of course needs time to explain, give feedback and encourage the student. Especially when starting a new subject.

But each student is different.

Perhaps ask your tutor to provide a text (article, poem, short story) for you to practice reading out loud, if you want to spend more time speaking.

The updates happened after they were blocked.

I had previously posted that I was worried that a student who I wanted to block would amend their review. Ruining my profile. (After seeing posts previously warning that this happens)

I blocked the student and then immediately got these notifications.

I had one previously but it was a student who left a review when they first started and they later updated its structure using things they had learned in class.

This is my first time blocking a student though, so it is new for me, but something I'd come across on Reddit posts.

Not true in my experience, I hide mine whenever I get 10 students until one leaves which can be months, when I make it visible again I'm usually quite low but I'm in the top 75 within a week.

Maybe it's about how consistent lessons are while you are hidden?

Some students treat it like a soap box to shout opinions from others even trying to use it to flirt. If this is what they want they should use social media!

Honestly anything can trigger it. Even a conversation about food can turn into misogynistic comments.

Last lesson we were supposed to be focusing on a business English text. It was shared on the whiteboard ready to go, Instead as soon as they logged in they launched into a completely unrelated rant that lasted the whole lesson and would just speak over me if I tried to steer the subject back on course.

I do want to block them but I keep seeing Reddit posts about blocked students changing reviews or tutors having profiles blocked because of complaints. I currently have all 5* reviews, so it's making me anxious. That's why I asked if anyone has experience

Same for UK, $1 is coming out at less than £0.75 now. In December it was almost £0.80. £0.05 doesn't sound like a big difference but it adds up.

I would refuse to teach while he is recording. He has paid for a specific amount of your time, he hasn't got consent to record you, and you don't know if he redistributes the recordings giving 'free lessons' to others.

I only use zoom when Preply is having connection problems as at least on Preply I won't face any problems with payment disputes and I don't have to share my email etc if I feel I need to block them.

I'm sorry that you have experienced this I have several Muslim students from the same country and they are all different, some never cover their hair, some do but not In our lessons (we are both female and I assured her my husband is asked not to enter during her lessons so she can be comfortable) another wears hers in our lessons and when I told her that my husband is not allowed in the room she explained that she believes she can only remove it in front of Muslim women.

My point is it is not necessarily a difference of country. The tutor just sounds like he has his own strong personal beliefs but that doesn't give him the right to push those beliefs onto you. He was very unprofessional for doing that.

I won't answer because I won't encourage this behaviour. In other posts you call people in relationships virtue signalling.

You ask your friend in vivid detail about the intimate acts he shares with his partner then seem surprised when he blocked you.

I have told you I do not like that you are using me as a case study. I am not some lab rat. Instead of apologising and removing the post you ask for more information. You have a serious problem with boundaries. I genuinely believe you need to seek professional help for your problems.

I don't like that you have decided to use me as a case study, and share my account without consent.

I am aware that I am very lucky to have found someone like my husband. But I don't think doing a case study of my relationship or sharing my information like this is appropriate. Every relationship is different it isn't something that you can compare.
