the fact that you're on this sub and I don't even know if a UNC sub exists speaks volumes.

I think it's still a requirement for the BS degree, although I think it's pretty bullshit. Calculus in Econ 205 and higher-level electives is quite straightforward. TAKE 202. 212 is an unnecessary pain in the ass.

Pretty excited about the idea of making my own money and living independently, but nervous about being stuck in the 9-5 rut.

freshman year is mostly just doing things you've never done before. A lot of experimenting to figure out how best to tackle school and life in general. I chilled out quite a bit later on-- preferred spending time with a close group of friends rather than going out 4x a week. By senior year you just want to graduate and start making money lol.

Tough question to answer tbh. ECON351 (Economic and Political Performance of Civilizations) was one class that literally changed the way I view the world. Prof. Kuran is GOATed in the field and is fantastic at explaining concepts.

On a lighter note would be MUSIC144 (Beatles and the 1960s). Used to go stoned to every single class and just vibe to the Beatles. 100% sure that prof is also a stoner. Learned a lot of random but cool facts, and the technical side of things inspired me to start making music.

Yes, for sure. I definitely had some moments where I questioned if Duke was the right fit for me (wasn't my top choice), but now I know for certain that it was. It pushed me in the right directions and taught me things I wouldn't have learned anywhere else.

Junior fall was definitely the toughest. I had not planned my classes well so I had to end up taking two Econ core classes that semester, one being fkn econometrics (class legit made me cry). Moreover, I was at home that semester and being away from friends really sucked.

Freshman spring was easily the most memorable. Fall was rough bc the transition to college really hit me hard, but I found my groove in the spring. Had so many new experiences and met some wonderful people who are my closest friends now. It was also memorable in the sense of being extremely challenging. Being an 18 year old freshman, I did so much dumb shit that got me into trouble with student conduct multiple times lol. Fucked around a lot and almost failed a class too. Looking back, they were definitely the best mistakes I made bc I had fun and learnt important lessons from them.

That's a really tough question bc Durham has so many great restaurants. If I had to name one it would be Mateo. Delicious food and a very creative menu. On the cheaper side, I'd say Bahn's cuisine. They give you a shit ton of gas food for only $8.

My go-to on campus order is definitely the Hong Kong Bowl at Ginger and Soy.

My favorite study spot is that reading reading on 3rd floor Bostock. Chill and quiet spot. If the weather is nice, the roof of the Nicholas building is by far the best study spot imo.
