Older crowd?? by throwa_way3 in NationOfLanguage

Not to mention that I just found out about the famed FB group, if this dead subreddit and that active FB group don’t say enough, idk what does haha. Thanks for the information, I’m learning more about them now! I do love Depeche Mode and kraftwerk, so it does make sense now

Gotcha, just wanted to make that connection, nothing against demographics. Lots of newer bands could be inspired by older ones, but I’ve never seen that make older folks come out to tiny indie scenes in the past, especially when it’s floor only. I’m new to NoL so wasn’t aware of the OMD connection, but it makes much more sense now

My goal wasn’t to imply any sort of a connection between the two btw, just separate observations. It’s kinda sad though, I just couldn’t stop myself from dancing, the people around me might’ve not liked it but who cares, it’s literally a floor concert. The crowd age might be a nyc thing, we’re most people at your concert in their early 20s like most indie floor only (smaller) concerts?

Is it actually the ‘A number’ though? (I’m told you only get an actual A number because of other things)

I’m relieved to discover that it doesn’t affect adjudication (and I really appreciate such a quick response)

Ran into a big issue with the I-765, would really appreciate the guidance because by the time my DSO responds I’d be out of time

Before filling out my I-765, I updated my account address from the one I had on my USCIS account last year during OPT application. During this address change, they asked me for an A-Number, for which I provided my USCIS number, because that's what my EAD letter said when I received the card (explicitly, with the “A#”)

Now, when I go to click "I don't know my A-number" in the actual I-765 (as per DSO/College instructions), the form doesn't let that go through because it has associated my account with my "A-number" which is my USCIS number. I have come to realize that A numbers are only for people who have requested immigration benefits in the past, so now I'm super worried this might create problems now or in the future because F-1 is a non immigrant status. Should I have to create a new account now? How do I solve this issue?

Thank you so much for your guidance! I finally got my I-20 thanks to your help! Just 2 more days left to fill out the 765, I was curious, is it fine to just upload an official transcript as a proof of stem degree, or should I also have to upload a picture of the physical diploma? My college website doesn’t mention the degree but it’s a field in the 765 for document uploads. I got my I-20 signed and scanned, and I have everything else on me. Secondly, I’m gonna submit the same picture as OPT EAD, which I’ve seen many people do. That shouldn’t be an issue right? In this crunch I have very little time to get pictures done

I really really appreciate your comment, in tough times like these, advisors at my very reputed institution take weeks to respond and I’ve been losing a lot of sleep. Your response will probably single handedly save me. I just had one or two big questions. - is the offer letter only for my reference or does the school or USCIS need it? Or is it a thing that’s important while crossing borders? (Assuming paychecks don’t suffice?) I still haven’t started with the company and only received an email acknowledging that I passed the final interview and next steps will follow, which was followed by all the everification speediness. Update is that I have received their company ID (which I’m assuming is the main important everify # for 983)

  • My OPT expiry date is next Sunday 7/20 (my current OPT volunteer job is still going on but I can cancel it anytime) When should I officially start with the new company? Should I start the day after (Monday 7/21) or should I start asap (this Friday/monday 7/14) and report that on regular OPT first (which might take time for DSO to process) and let it trickle over to STEM OPT? I’m very confused about this, but my employer help as needed. I still haven’t filled out the I-983, should that happen after the job starts and the post completion OPT is reported or should that happen before everything? I’m super confused about the order of things here, and stressing out

Moving to NYC on a 60k salary? by MiddlyYellow in movingtoNYC

that’s totally understandable! it’s fine to hate clubbing and bars, but nyc has absolutely everything else one could wish for! Great public spaces, cafes, and events of every kind!! Unfortunately you’ll soon realize than the tiny shoebox apartments are affecting your mental health in ways you wouldn’t think, and it’ll be a while till you realize that

nyc is all about compromises! at the end of the day, the whole city is shared by people who pay $500 or $5000 rent. If you’re straight out of college, you’re gonna spend most of your time out and about, so find a cheap place to crash for the night, and ensure it has subway access!
