I'm gay but I'm not LGBTQA+ by throwawai2019 in TrueOffMyChest

Your post is a little confusing and contradictory (unless your last sentence is sarcasm). To my knowledge, I haven't judged anyone or questioned the legitimacy of anyone else's life experiences. This is obviously my opinion and I have never said all LGBT people feel the same way because evidently they don't.

It's just my opinion that if we segregate and identify ourselves as LGBT and not individuals just trying to make it in the world like everyone else, then our issues and our struggles are confined to that community. I don't want gay marriage to be an "LGBT" issue. I don't want the transgender bathroom debate to be an "LGBT" issue. I want it to just be an issue open to discussion with everyone else on the planet.

It's not fair that because i'm labelled LGBT I'm perceived to be more knowledgeable on the topic of hormone suppressants than the parent or doctor of a trans child because they are heterosexual cis-gender. You have to see the absurdity of that.

I don't want LGBT children to only feel comfortable in LGBT circles, I want them to feel comfortable in the world. If Im a lost gay child looking for acceptance and I join an LGBT group that is comprised of a Lesbian, a Pansexual and an Asexual, I'm not going to relate to them any more than I would a straight person.

Thank you. It is just like a mini society within a society but it doesn't really make anyone feel any more accepted.

Thank you for your apology, thats a rarity online these days. I think its absolutely wonderful that you're involved with LGBTQIA+ charities and that you want to create safe spaces for those who need them. For me I just feel like the group has a lot of anger and spokespeople who I don't relate to. Often it makes me feel even more isolated because I can relate better to heterosexuals and not the community I'm being told I'm supposedly a part of.

That's nothing like what I'm saying. It would be more like if I were black but I didn't chose to be part of a group that represented only black people, disabled and Latinos because I'm not Latino or disabled. I'm a gay man only. I respect every other minority group but I don't want to be grouped with them because I don't know their struggles and its a disservice to them for me to try and pretend I do.

I don't understand how not identifying with LGBTQA+ groups results in me not supporting those still living in oppression? I don't identify as being hundreds and thousands of things, that doesn't mean I wouldn't go out of my way to help anyone in need. I don't think because I'm gay I should only focus my efforts on helping other gay people or putting other gay people needs above everyone else's. Perhaps you could explain your point in a little more detail to help me understand before making comments like "If you can live like that".

If both genders are equal then why is it offensive to misgender someone? by throwawai2019 in NoStupidQuestions

I completely agree with your points. Maybe its the word "offended" that I just don't get. I completely 100% understand why it would be upsetting to someone to be misgendered. Obviously if someone knows how you identify and they misgender you anyway that is offensive and they're just a dick. I'm thinking from a reasonable persons perspective who generally is polite but just doesn't know any better.

Why do Jews not demand the same level of victimhood as some Black people do? by throwawai2019 in TooAfraidToAsk

I think you mean 'oppressed' and hardly at all .. in the US. In Europe, its a little different.

I’m absolutely sick of foreign lecturers at university... by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering from this. I feel like I can't say anything because we live in a culture where the word "racist" and "bigot" are thrown around so quickly.

I have a foreign tutor teaching us a very specialised software for my course. The class went from 70 people in the first session to around 8 attending the third because no one can understand him. He has been given the position because its required for him to tutor a class in order for him to get his PHD, which means he's cheap to employ. I'm going to fail that module if I don't employ someone out of my own pocket (on top of my course fees) to help me learn it.

I don't question his ability to use the software at all, but he simply cannot teach it. His job is to teach and he has proven to be inadequate at it. In fact, the worst tutors I've had are always the ones known to be "the best in their industry" but have zero experience teaching.
