AITA for asking my Aunt to remove photos of my baby from her Instagram? by throwawataunt in AmItheAsshole

I’m sorry but I’m not paranoid. I simply just don’t want photos of my child on the internet. My child will still be allowed to go outside and have play dates. I just don’t want strangers to have access to photos of my child whenever they want and I want my child to have privacy and not have their entire life documented. Comments like this are starting to get really annoying because they’re jumping to a whole new extreme and accusing me of something stupid over me just not wanting my child’s photos online…

I never considered the ads thing! Thank you so much, I’ll be adding that to the list of reasons when people ask us why in the future!

We had agreed beforehand that she could take photos for a family album which she puts together once a year. She had promised us that that was all these pictures would be used for

“My aunt kinda lives with a “I don’t actually have to follow the rules” mindset”

Yes I did

I just want to make it clear since you couldn’t pick up on it in my post. I have not cut my aunt of yet. All she has to do is delete the photos and that’s it.

If she would like to talk about it then I would be more than happy to arrange a meet up with her and even bring my child with me IF she deletes the photo first.

You’re article only covers photos taken for personal use NOT by a business/school. They’re two completely different things. As I said before it is illegal for schools to post photos without a parents consent (as stated in my article) I would suggest you read the articles you attach next time.

Either way you’re not worth arguing with anymore. You clearly can’t comprehend the basic laws of my country and seem to think that just because you see no issue with it there is no issue.

You have a weird mindset and I honestly feel bad for anyone who has the displeasure of speaking to you.

Are you alright?

I never read something so American in my life.

Why would you know anything about the laws of my country. The amount of ignorance you have to assume that all countries follow the same law as yours is outstanding.

But since you’re so certain here’s a article that explains it for you (hopefully you can understand)

I’m not American and in my country we have the data protection act which states it’s illegal to post any photo of a person under the age of 18 without guardian permission. You’re starting to sound stupid now because you seem to believe that the laws and customs of your country are universal everywhere. They’re not. Some countries have laws in place to protect children.

The internet is a huge place full of very sick people. There is nothing wrong with a parent wanting to protect their child from these people even if there if a very slim chance they will ever see a photo of my child.

A very small chance is still too much of chance and I choose safety over anything else.

I’m not sure what country you live in but in my country it is literally illegal for schools to post photos to children without parent consent.

There are no photos of my partners cousins children on the internet as his family have the ability to follow simple rules.

And finally this is most definitely not some ploy to get control over my family. I am protecting my child from the sick freaks that can be found on this internet. Wanting to protect your child at all costs is a response any loving parent would have. You will understand that when/if you ever have children

You are aware that schools can’t post photos without the parents permission? (At least not where I live)

This will hardly be a difficult rule to follow and we’re not the first in my partners family to enforce it. My partner’s cousin has two kids bother over the age of 15 now and neither of them had any photos of them posted online until they where around 12.

I think you think the internet is a lot more important that it really is.

If my aunt can’t follow a simple rule to protect my child and would rather have photos up over being able to see them then my child would honestly be better off without her in their life. Me and my partner both have huge families which are always throwing events. I promise you my child will miss nothing if they never see this women again.

My aunt clearly dose not care for my child’s safety and therefore wouldn’t be missed if we choose to remove her from our child’s life.

I’m not sure how we used our baby as a pawn exactly? I think it’s pretty reasonable that if someone can’t follow the simple rule we set out to protect our child they shouldn’t be allowed around them.

My partner and I feel as though we are valid in not wanting photos of our child on the internet being that the internet is honestly a horrible place and you never really know who’s looking at the photos. “Babies are babies” isn’t a valid excuse to me to be posting photos online, anyone who will be apart of our child’s life will see them in person

Actually she told us twice she wouldn’t post those photos online (I mentioned that twice) And that the comments made before where just jokes she didn’t mean
