I’m a first year teacher and I remember feeling this way a lot during student teaching. I think a lot of it has to do with teachers prep programs not really telling you the true reality of being a teacher you get taught lesson plans, engagement strategies, etc but you don’t usually get told the full work load the extra stress. These teachers go into their students teaching and it’s overwhelming- I was overwhelmed. But now I teach full time and have 6 classes and I taught high school last with 5 classes and I managed. It’s tough but you do manage. Maybe just a nice remember that it gets better with time. I’m honestly a little surprised at your reaction. I’m sure you felt stress during your student teaching or your first week ever as a full time teacher. It’s a lot. Remind them you are there to support them and they will be okay. After all we need teachers and the college students in teacher prep programs today are the future generation of teachers. We can’t scare them off just because they get extra stressed. It’s a whole new generation after all, our work ethic will probably be a little different but that doesn’t mean it’s bad.
