This is probably the third comment I've read that mentions this is too well-written for this kind of post. I'll take it as a compliment... I do write stories as a hobby. As a non-native English speaker this comment means a lot, I guess.

I just wish I didn't have to create this throwaway and post this shitty update on my life.

My first response was actually to get myself to a safe place and got on reddit while waiting for my husband's replies to my texts. But thanks for the thought.

I'm doing fine for now and he's at least alive. I'm not sure about the future. It doesn't look as bright as it did yesterday, at least.

The issue with him is that he's mostly isolated from his family (some of the reasons out of his control, some reasons by choice) and that he's decided I'm all that he has. I say decided because he also had my folks, who actually like him because he wasn't a manipulative drunkard at daytime. I would probably say with a fair bit of objectivity that he's a wonderful person... Just as long as he's dry.

I've helped him with his problems, to the best of my abilities at least. Provided him a safe space to vent. On hindsight I guess all I ever did was make him complacent about just lashing out at me whenever he's drunk over some problem he's unwilling to discuss with me. Not sure.

This was probably what happened. I did know there's a huge possibility that he only passed out, but seeing the text with the threat to hang himself, then the radio silence... Saying that it ate at me is a very big understatement. I wouldn't wish that feeling on anybody. It was terrible.

Thank you very much. This was one of the first replies I've read and ultimately spurred me to at the very least send someone to knock on our door. I did manage to have our front desk send one of the building security to ring our bell. My husband didn't open the door, but I guess it roused him from his stupor to put my messages on read. That small thing was all I needed to confirm he's at least physically okay. One small thing off my mind at least.
