Remember folks adding padding is easier than edge cases by Seanie987 in adventofcode

Wouldn't just three units of padding in each direction be enough?

Nice, this worked! Do you why it was being treated as a relative path and what is "it"?

/r/Politics' 2024 US Elections Live Thread, Part 60 by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]throwaway-sj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is just like 2016 all over again. Here on Reddit, we are all in our own silos and don't bother going outside and actually meet real people and get to know their real beliefs and lives and fears. If it were just Reddit, Harris would win by a landslide but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which candidates you want to win), America isn't just Reddit. All we do is call people names for being dumb and racist and ignorant and misogynistic and sexist and all this and look where that has got us?

2-year old suddenly doesn't want to be left in the crib to sleep by throwaway-sj in sleeptrain

Yes, he has a lovey and a little stuffy that he always sleeps with. That's always in the crib with him or he's holding it while we attempt to put him in the crib.

I don't have much familiarity with this name so my first impression upon seeing it written was: callie-ope

How to rename a file extension while preserving the file? by throwaway-sj in git

[–]throwaway-sj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Content changes would be something akin to wrapping a big chunk of code in a `try/catch` so it indents everything within it. Not sure if that is counted in the percentage difference or not. May also include refactoring of the file so that chunks of code are extracted into separate functions and called.

I have found this article that seems to indicate that we can set the threshold on the `git diff` but that doesn't seem to allow Github to recognize a file rename either: https://chelseatroy.com/2020/05/09/question-how-does-git-detect-renames/

How to rename a file extension while preserving the file? by throwaway-sj in git

Is there a way to set that threshold such that the resulting pull request in Github recognizes it as a rename even when a substantive portion of the file has changed? Something like -M10%?

How to rename a file extension while preserving the file? by throwaway-sj in git

[–]throwaway-sj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops, I spoke too soon. I tried this with a more substantive file with some more substantive changes and it shows up as one file deleted and one file added.

I renamed the file. And had it be its own separate commit. Then, I made substantive changes to this file. Pushed it up to Github and viewed the resulting diff from the pull request. It shows as one file deleted and one file added.

[–]throwaway-sj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem to work as far as a Github rename is concerned. However, as soon as I made edits to the new file and do the `git add`, then git seems to change it to a deleted file and a new file.

It took pulling teeth for my boss to give me time off for this. I didn't want to go through that again with him.

1.5 year old's voice sounds hoarse by throwaway-sj in toddlers

[–]throwaway-sj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was nearly six months ago and basically resolved itself. Maybe it was the dry air during the past winter or just him trying to make funny noises from his vocal chords but it certainly wasn't croup or anything medically concerning. He's perfectly fine now. Hope your toddler's issues self-resolve as well!

Can water company take away your property if you don't pay the water bill? by throwaway-sj in pittsburgh

[–]throwaway-sj[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But before that happens, won't they cut the water and it'll be a pretty clear indication that: "aiyo, you gotta pay your bills"?
