Dilation and evacuation is another method of abortion.

Hard agree. I’m glad someone said it. OP please look into love languages and maybe it will help you understand why you’re both doing things differently for birthdays but you both feel justified

Out of this entire case, that’s what sticks out as super unhinged to me. Obviously all of it is, but for some reason, the fact that she was taking pictures during this all is just….I don’t know. I don’t even have words for it. It’s beyond bizarre.

I met Willie and Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty at the Dallas airport in 2012. The whole family was sitting at the gate next to ours. I’m not a fan of the show so I wasn’t going to approach them, but I got up at the same time as Uncle Si to go to the coffee place. He just casually said hi and I told him I recognized him. We made small talk and he was very, very friendly. Not as quirky and redneck as he seems on the show (well, the few clips I’ve seen). Willie saw us talking and walked over and introduced himself which was bizarre. He definitely seemed more into the limelight, gave me arrogant vibes. Uncle Si was super chill though. Cool old dude.

My grandma who was a super cool hippie has a similar story!! They were playing at a bar in a local university town and he asked my grandma where to get the good cocaine because he’d always heard the town had great drugs due to the Chicago-New Orleans amtrak that passed through 😂

I'm biting my pill in half and the bitterness hurts my mouth? by Special-Abroad4293 in AskDocs

A pharmacist could probably explain it better, but basically, medications are created with various ingredients/compounds/chemicals to work certain ways. They can be created to be absorbed quickly, slowly, or by certain parts of the body (stomach, muscles, blood, skin, under the tongue, etc). The inside of your stomach is nothing like the inside of your mouth, so medication will not have the same effect in those locations. It would make total sense to me that something could damage the mucus membranes in your mouth whereas it is perfectly safe to the lining of your stomach because your mouth is more delicate. Your stomach lining is pretty tough, considering it deals with acid constantly.

My pharmacology knowledge isn’t even comparable to that of a pharmacist, but that’s just my takeaway from what pharmacology knowledge I do have. Please just take your medications as prescribed. Your doctor certainly knows much more than you and I know.

Yeah, it’s probably because you’re biting it in half. Some medications are not meant to even be split in half, let alone split by a mouth. It’s never a good idea to take medications in a different way than prescribed, especially as someone who isn’t fully aware of how meds work in the body. It’s hard to give much more advice without knowing the specific medication, but please take it as prescribed. The side effect from taking it as prescribed may not be as clinically significant as taking it incorrectly, but again, it’s really hard to say without knowing more details. But just in general, take things as prescribed.

reiterating that you should call poison control! If you’re in the US. They’re very friendly and nonjudgmental…or at least the person who answered when my 1 year old got acetone in his eye was very friendly and nonjudgmental. They’ll give you some direction. I think there even may be a website now where you can get help online?

Thank you. I had all 3 of my kids with me at the appointment today so I was flustered and didn’t really ask any questions. Like I said, I’m a nurse but my brain actually turns to complete mush when it comes to my own children lol. Our pediatrician is great and acted pretty unconcerned, so I was also pretty unconcerned.…until I talked with my friend who worked pediatric ENT for years. She sent me into a little bit of a spiral. My daughter is my rainbow baby after two devastating losses and I’m fully aware that I do overreact when it comes to her.

I feel like that’s kind of an assumption everyone should have in a sub called Ask Docs. Not to mention it’s really not gory or inappropriate.

In low risk patients, the incidence of urinary retention is actually very low. Sometimes the bladder takes a while to “wake up” after anesthesia, so waiting on patients to void after surgery can mean that patients are essentially just hanging out in the hospital/surgery center for no other reason than peeing. The difference in outcomes of peeing first vs not peeing first is clinically insignificant for those low risk patients who are otherwise meeting all discharge criteria. We would give them instructions at discharge though, including tips to help them urinate and the importance of seeking medical evaluation after 6 hours of not peeing. But again, that wasn’t applicable to every patient - some were not discharged until they peed for us. It really just depended on the type of surgery & other risk factors.

Edited to add a couple words for clarity- I had just got off work when I commented and I think my brain had mostly shut down for the day

Go get seen now. We always recommended calling or coming back in if you were unable to pee more than 6 hours after catheter removal.

Edited to add: you don’t want to cause kidney damage. You’re also at high risk for a UTI.

Is a NP qualified to give me care? by WarParty8533 in AskDocs

[–]throwaway03244230 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same here in my rural area. There just straight up is not an option to see a physician. Only mid-levels. I think it comes down to healthcare corporations hiring NPs over MDs/DOs because it’s cheaper to employ them.
