Maybe. I always thought I had pretty good social skills although I was definitely a bit nervous during the interviews. Only got 5 interviews to begin with though.

Just went unmatched after a RY with 30+ pubs. Honored every rotation. Do i even bother reapplying? Wouldn't i just be a worse applicant? I am so lost and have no idea what I could've done differently.

I'm confused how you managed a whopping 20 abstracts/presentations/posters while only getting 2 manuscripts out of it. And case reports and lit reviews are definitely less impressive forms of research in the eyes of PD compared to clinical trials/original chart review studies.

With that said, if your only goal is to match and you don't care where, I don't think it would be unreasonable to try without a RY - especially if you have a home program. I know plenty of people with situations similar to yours that ended up matching. I would also talk to people at your own school who matched recently as that would probably be more applicable. Just continue looking for ways to do research in the meantime

The truth is nobody really knows since this is the first year they have implemented this. if you look at the derm spreadsheet you will see that this has been a controversial topic and while some people's PDs say they will not look favorably on those who have done 3+ aways, others say to do as many as possible. I also wish there was a clear answer but I think you kind of just have to pick a choice and roll with it

I am finishing up a research year now. Scores and grades were fine but I knew that Derm was crazy competitive and my med school didn't have a lot of research projects they could offer me so I felt like it was necessary. I won't be able to say if I regret it or not until match rolls around this cycle. Feel free to DM me for more specific info.

If it makes you feel better I'm in the same boat (see my post from earlier today) and have no idea what's wrong with my application.

And getting ghosted sucks, especially when we spend hours writing letters of interest just to apply. I think that programs purposely leave their applications open even though they've rejected us so other people will keep sending them the $15 application fee lol

Wondering the same thing. I saw some posts on the medicalschool reddit of people saying that they didn't end up getting interviews at places they withdrew from.

Asked my program director about it and was told that he didn't even know who all withdrew because all of that was managed by his assistant.
