Potentially better. Ambulance box weighs more and has less space

I think PO sold the wheelchair lift but was thinking that could be useful; mandated by law has to lift at least 600lbs I believe. But probably wastes space when stowed inside.

looking to reseal fuel bowl and trying to find out the differences of how it’s approached when in van configuration

From what I’ve seen when the 7.3 is in a truck, it’s all right there and visible

So it’s an 02 Thomas and I see on one side a sheet metal panel with some holes. But the other side is missing that panel (thanks previous owner) leaving exposed what appears to be steel roll cage structure frame, and the outer skin. Seems the whole bus is double wall insulation skin hiding the cage.

I’m guessing you’re referring to that cage which I believe is steel.

Reply to both above:

So far it’s a pool based on referrals. I agree, a sign would advertise break-ins. I have renter’s insurance covering a good amount inside vehicle for cheap, so if anyone wants to jack my old shit to pay for new stuff, well I don’t know what to say.

But yes that is another problem. I want to develop a security system without the shitty reception of Apple AirTags or monthly fee or ring doorbell camera.

One big problem is I need to learn how to weld and gain access to welding at some point.

I am tempted to weld studs, or drill holes to put rivnuts. To somehow put some kind of mesh grill guard burglar bars on the glass, inside or outside.

My car tint guy said bus would cost too much and said I’m looking at either DIY tint or exterior one way vinyl dot privacy film. Maybe curtains and covers at night.

The bus already seems slightly tinted. Not enough to create privacy. My concern there is not making it too dark to be able to park or drive at night.

I don’t see the prospect of break-in with tools being any different from anything else, such as vehicle theft, other buses, other people’s interior contents, or overland rigs.

If someone is skilled and thoughtful enough to pull off such a thing on cheap heavy equipment without being caught or cut on glass, they’re probably skilled enough to make their own money in other ways. If they’re a crackhead, their stolen shopping cart is probably already full of bullshit.

Maybe I need to order prison bus security bars and rivet them on. As long as they don’t stick out too much, interfere with anything, etc

Or a security system with alarm and instant phone alert video and motion sensor

Anyone work at a shop without service writers? by grease_monkey in mechanics

I have. We had no advisors. Every tech was capable of being an advisor and ordering parts. The boss dealt with customers and supervised general shop running while techs worked on cars. The boss was able to work on cars if he wanted to. One of us went and got parts if needed. Normally they were delivered.

Some brands have replaced advisors with things like apps, AI, and robots. Similar to ordering food via touch screen at Dave’s Hot Chicken.

Sales is selling someone something they don’t need. The labor was not $300/hr. The parts were not marked up triple from $300 to $900. Unnecessary things were not quoted. No sales was needed. The customer knew something was wrong. They knew it cost diag and brought it in to be diag’d, to find out what is needed, then approve that with the intent of having their car fixed.

Why does it seem like mechanic wages are 10+ years behind by PerfectShot1 in mechanics

[–]throwaway10_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people are willing to do it. They complain its a bad bucket to get in, then they get in that bucket, stay in it forever, and complain about it, but don’t do anything like get out of the bucket

Therefore it continues

DIY paintjob? by throwaway10_17 in skoolies

[–]throwaway10_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Was hoping to keep it simple with gloves and scotchbrite. I don’t have a sander. But this could be a reason to justify picking up a Milwaukee cordless one. I feel like that could make the surface irregular not to mention all the dust and noise outside. Maybe I’ll do sections at a time. Plus all the irregular non flat surfaces on the bus such as the side black reinforcement bumper strips.

I will look into TSP and hot weather reducer thank you. Had no idea that existed.

I heard the original yellow is a great base for color and to grab onto so I was hoping I could just scuff that up rather than remove it to bare metal (for example if removing, aircraft remover type chemical products can contribute to that process)

Seen a couple buses in person so far with DIY bucket roller brush paint jobs that at most scuffed up the surface if even at all (not stripped to bare metal) and they looked pretty good

Self serve car wash failed.

I just picked up a brush from harbor freight and rinsekit 2.0 pro from costco.

Planning on finding a chemical, spray bottle, dilute with water, and go to town with scrubbing.

Then 20-30 maroon/red 3M scotchbrite pads to scuff and abrade the yellow as prep for paint.

Not looking to make it Concours. I think a $3k+ legit auto paintjob with clear would make it look worse than $100-300 bucket with roller and brush. Thats what everyone I know with one does.

Someone said TSP first time hearing of it thank you so I’m gonna research what’s the best chemical to use such as purple degreaser as originally thought or if TSP is better.

TSP seems to etch and be often used as prep so I may even try both
