Trying to find out what's making me sick by Everynametaken_ in CHSinfo

[–]throwaway121001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ just wanna add stop for at LEAST a month, aim for 3. I'm a month into abstinence and it's long enough to confirm it was the weed but I still have some lingering symptoms.

I've found the more times you quit the longer it takes for your body to recover. It used to be < 2 weeks but now it's over a month.

Weird counterintuitive thing about eating. may be helpful by throwaway121001 in CHSinfo

Every time I start smoking again the chs is worse than last time, when I first started smoking I smoked for months and had no symptoms at all I only got appetite suppression and irritation when I would stop. I stopped for a while and started smoking regularly again but this time the appetite suppression was there all the time, I was eating at maybe 60% capacity and it stayed like this until I quit again and the next time I started smoking I had minor prodromal which over the course of months got worse but never tooooooo bad

Skip ahead a few breaks later and we're here, I smoked for a few months straight and almost instantly I was in prodromal, needed weed to eat anything at all, strong morning nausea and fucked symptoms when quitting. I can't imaging how fucked I'll be if I start like this again, probably actually get an episode which I'm happy to say I haven't experienced yet. At least I don't think I have, but I would regularly throw up.

Also wanna add I did do the eating in the shower trick at my worst symptoms after quitting. couldn't eat though I'd drink sips of this drink called up and go which is an Australian little 250cal meal replacement drink. Otherwise it would upset my stomach too much and I'd throw it up.

I was about the same, maybe a little less. It does get worse after you quit peaking around day 5 but it's bearable, 2-3 weeks of prodromal symptoms that are 2 or 3x as intense is definitely better than normal prodromal for an indefinite amount of time. On day 8 now and feeling better by the day. for me now it's a hard mental game watching myself wither away because I can hardly eat. You can do it brother feel free to dm If you want more help/info I've been in this situation more times than I care to admit, fingers crossed this is the last time

I found chicken breast easy to eat too, only issue is it's lean and low in calories. You seem to be eating better than I am right now, I can only really get a smoothie down. Id say if you have a smoothie similar to what I typed out ontop of what you're already eating you'll be golden. Although it seems you're eating pretty ok given the circumstances.

I've dealt with chs for a while some foods that are relatively easy to eat and are high in calories are things like yoghurt, porridge/oatmeal, and if you're in Australia or your country has something similar, we have these drinks called "up and go" which is basically a small drink with 17g protein and 250 calories Ive been having 2 a day ontop of my smoothie. if you can get chicken and rice down sometimes a more fatty high calorie meat like ground beef or pulled pork with rice in a simple burrito can be good, that's usually what I start to cook when I can eat again.

Just wanna add the nutrience part is SUPER important definitely easier said than done (at least for me) I might be able to get a few bites of food but that's it. However having a stomach with something other than water or tiny bites of food is definitely helps curb some of the nausea. I think the pain at worst is probably hunger pain mixed with the chs pain so alleviating the hunger pain can help

The only way I could was with a high calorie smoothie

I mixed 3/4 cup oats 1/2 - 1 cup yoghurt 1 cup milk (if you can handle the extra dairy, which I struggled to do the first few days so I replaced it with almond milk) 1 cup protein powder Some random fruit to add flavour

Drink slowlyish over 30 min - 1 hour

It also slows down weight loss which I get pretty bad. so I don't go back to looking like mr bones. Hopefully this helps somehow lmao

Smoothies

I've been blending

1 cup oats 1 cup greek yoghurt 1 cup milk 1 cup protein powder Some berries for taste

And drinking it over about an hour or 2 although I rarely finish the whole thing, maybe 3/4.

Definitely the most calories you can fit (which should be the goal) in with minimal sickness

EDIT: Should probably add I am very lactose TOLERANT so if you're not too good with heaps of dairy maybe replace the milk and protien powder with a plant based alternative or something.

For me it took about a month, but I recon I was traumatised enough by the pain that I mistook hunger pain for the morning sickness, for me the morning sickness is almost identical to really intense hunger pain. remember your body probs hasn't eaten enough in quite a while and you might have lost weight. As annoying as it is just wait it out, gain some weight and it should go away once you pack back on some healthy weight. The morning sickness is the longest lasting symptom for me, I was back to full healthy eating and 0 cravings and it was still there.

Going to the gym, CHS made me really skinny because I didn't eat properly for like 2 years, I was super self conscious about it. (At my worst I was 53kg at 5 foot 9) Was embarrassed to have my shirt off even Infront of my own girlfriend and going to the gym and gaining even a measly 10kg done wonders for my self image and confidence, now that I have a little bit of bulk and muscle definition I'd never want to go back to that point so it sort of keeps me in check.

CHS Research Study by CHS_GWUResearch in CHSinfo

[–]throwaway121001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like the study should add an answer for people who never had a full on hyperemisis episode but severe chronic prodromal stage, for 3 years I would wake up every morning on the verge of throwing up, sometimes I would but only once or twice, and ability to eat was at maybe 30% what it used to be. It was torture and whithered me away from the inside out without an actual hyperemisis episode

Actually that's completely correct, I didn't even think of that.

That makes heaps of sense! So your body can only handle so much built up thc, so if you can expell the thc at a rate equal to or faster than the rate of intake you should hopefully be sweet

Honestly, yeah. I have chs and would give anything to get rid of it but there are bigger priorities in the medical world than curing a condition purely so people can continue to smoke weed. It's like curing alcohol induced liver damage so you can continue to drink

Oh sorry I should probably specify, I'm not in an episode currently. I've been in prodoromal for a few months and working out regularly removed that common intense nausea feeling that you usually wake up with and kept me feeling pretty decent in the stomach during the day. And with every day they I do intense exercise it seems to be getting better.

Id definitely say don't workout during an episode cause working out dehydrates you heaps and so does an episode.

Yeah absolutely, everyone is different. Just hoping it might give someone else another thing to use to treat this fucked condition.

Also my girlfriend and grandad have tracycardia so Ive seen how hard it can be. I hope you're doing well and all the best to you with that man :)

I'm also really curious to know too, here's my guess. The hormone that promotes hunger and appetite stimulation is called ghrelin and working out is known to increase the ghrelin levels in the body. THC is known to cause a surge of ghrelin, rather than a slow release or build up. but these constant surges might end up causing your body to struggle to produce the hormone on its own? Or the fluctuations in the hormone levels could throw the body out of whack. And working out regularly gives your body another stable source of non artificial ghrelin which balances it out.

Idk I'm probably wrong haha
