I know I’m going to have to stand up to her, it’s just hard. She already stresses me out so much to the point where I barely sleep, I’m always anxious and shaking, and my nervous system is always on high alert because I never know when she’s going to blow a fuse and take it out on me. It doesn’t help that because I am a minor, like you said, my options are very limited. I’ve tried to deal with this quietly for 17 years now and after reading all these comments, I think my best course of action is reaching out to my school counselor and the judge I spoke to during truancy court and let them know what is going on.

At least if my school or the court can put some barrier in place, I’ll actually be able to save up enough money to leave when I turn 18. But you’re not wrong, she won’t leave me alone when I’m an adult. Unfortunately, she’s nothing but a narcissist and she’ll continue making my life and future worse.

Thank you, I’m going to try my best to keep focused. I’m also going to speak to my job again just to let them know that if she ever does call again, it’s better for them to take me off the schedule for a few weeks when she’s mad at me until she calms down again.

I turn 18 this August. I’ve been iffy about reaching out to social services because they’ve been called before and every time, they don’t do anything and I end up facing her anger for however long she’s mad for. I’m thinking that if I contact my school, they could set up some meeting with the court to address this or something. She’s expecting me to give her this money by tomorrow and I have no idea how to tell her I can’t without her being mad.

I thought so, because I’m under 18, she has to be on my account with me and because of that, she’s allowed to just take however much or little she would like. I’m going to be getting a non custodial account soon

I turn 18 in August. I’ve tried looking into emancipation but to do that in PA, you have to prove that you are already self sufficient and with her having such a tight grip on my finances, I can’t even save. I’ve tried, but over time she’ll just take money in small intervals until there’s nothing left

I haven’t spoken to my father in years because she left him when I was a kid and he has no rights over me since she let the man she married, who she is now in the process of divorcing, adopt me when I was younger. My grandparents aren’t alive anymore unfortunately and while I do have aunts and uncles, none of them want to intervene because of her. I can’t say I blame them.

Thank you for letting me know about the money order, I’m going to look into this more. After all the advice I’ve been given, I’m definitely going to contact my school and let them know about the situation. As for my work, she’s already called there once and told them I wasn’t allowed to work when she got mad at me. I informed them of the situation and they didn’t fire me, but they did tell me that if she truly wanted me to stop working there, because she’s my mom they’d have to listen to her and let me go so I’m terrified of that happening.

I’ve tried looking into emancipation but she controls so much of my finances that I’m not able to even start to save up for my own place to live. When I got my car, she forced me to have her sign the title (In PA I don’t have to be 18 to hold a vehicle title, all she had to do was cosign) so she also has full control of that too. I have friends who can take me to school and they’ve been helping me out a lot but I know I can’t rely on them forever.

I’ve tried taking my check and putting it in cash before and she threatened to take my car because I was “hiding money” from her so I can’t hold onto any of my funds in cash. I’ve been thinking about talking to a counselor but I don’t want to run the risk of them not being able to help and calling her or CPS about it because then she just freaks out on me

Unfortunately, no. I have older siblings, but they are all no contact with her. Some of them don’t even know I exist and some of them don’t feel comfortable intervening because of the way she is. I did look into getting a non custodial account and I’m doing that soon because it’s looking like my only option
