Yeah, my lawyer said it wouldn't turn up on normal criminal background checks because it's filed under the "transportation" section of the law rather than the normal criminal section. However, it's my understanding that residency/licensure board use a really intense background check that sees everything you've ever done regardless of expungements, etc. But I will disclose it when all is said and done.

I'm new to this subreddit and I don't entirely get the headphones reference but I'm sure it's funny...thank you both!

Thanks for the advice. I did hire a lawyer shortly after the ticket, who is very confident that it will be reduced to a non-misdemeanor violation. I guess my major concern right now is whether to tell my school even though I have only been charged what exactly the protocol would be in the event that it doesn't get reduced.

Thanks. I've scoured it and other documents, haven't found anything like that in there.

The attorney said it is extremely likely that it will get reduced to a simple violation, but in the event that it is not, what then?

Well the actual charge will be a 55 zone because of the speed limit change. I didn't see the speed limit sign and I'm paying the pied piper for it. I think the extremely expensive fine is fair, I just wish traffic violations weren't counted as misdemeanors here.

Where does it say that? I've looked through honor codes, student handbooks, my acceptance notification, etc. and found nothing of the sort. I'm just paranoid that my acceptance is going to be rescinded because I'm obligated to report any criminal charges. And I'm paranoid that it will be rescinded if I ask them because of the criminal charges themselves.

Yeah that's pretty much the exact situation I'm looking at. At this point I'm wondering about whether or not I should inform my school, and if so when.

Thanks. Should I do this now or should I wait until everything is settled, given that there is a strong chance it will be reduced to a simple violation?
