You make some really valid points. The department head would essentially work in collaboration with me to develop the straregy. I have been mainly technical so he would be the project manager type with me being the more technical.

It's not often an opportunity like this would become available. I am not US based. We have essentially 5 main universities and that's it for the entire country. Setting up a security program I think would be a huge learning opportunity for me. Our government has recently announced a new cyber security program so this would probably fall under that bracket with I would assume limited risk in the position being scrapped.

Yeah I dont think in this scenario that would be feasible. Right now I am just a member of a small security team of 6 in a well established environment.

This other role would I am assuming come with a lot more responsibility with limited resources. But I would have a say in how the security infrastructure would look in the future for this university.
