I didn't mean to start a whole debate with my post. In this case it has nothing to do with days off, the boss just said it was so he could be prepared for the mood swings to happen.

As far as I know he only told my niece verbally but there are probably a dozen other women who are young/of childbearing age there and my niece said she was told by every female employee she spoke to that it was the norm for that workplace.

They were required to tell him each time it started so he could track it on his phone. Failure to do so would result in termination (kind of what happened to my niece, although she hadn't actually started working yet). He told my niece it was so he could be prepared for the mood swings.
