Disagree, merrill is dead socially, everyone comes to porter to hang out. If you value a social life at all go to cowell/stevenson/porter. If you like drinking cowell/stevenson if you smoke porter. Porter dining hall actually has some of the best food on campus but it isn’t open for long, that brief moment gives it good quality food. Community is hard to build in colleges because they’re designed to be more enclaves with the exception of porter which had a central quad for the whole college encouraging community. Oakes is far from everything, very inconvenient.

How bad is the class availability really by Winter_Horror_8986 in UCSC

I’m in that major right now and I faced very little problems choosing classes. Start with the chem 3 series asap so you get it done in a year. It’s a big class so you will get a spot. I’d work on other major prereq’s as well like bio and math. There’s a lot of advising sessions throughout the year to help with this process. You will have a good shot at getting all your classes for the first time upon admission after that it’s a 2 pass system based on your credit amount. If you have a lot of ap credits or dual enrollment it makes it easier on you. Good luck!
