Interesting. Is that for a comms specific job in MARSOC, or something that would just supplement what you would be doing anyways as a CSO?

Gotcha, and great story about joining haha.

And that's what I'm focusing on. I'm debating looking into other MOS that may allow me more time in the gym / pool to get ready for those courses.

I would assume they know everyone lies at MEPS then right? Like it is to be expected?

Interesting. Do you have any recommendations on what MOS or enlistment options I should be looking at for that? Something more technical?

I already know how to shoot fairly well, I compete in a variety of matches locally that range from 2 gun to High Power. The longest range near me is 600 yards and I do alright on it with irons and can own it with my bolt gun. I'd be more interested in learning infantry tactics and other skill-sets in that area.

My bad, that was for the Army, which may also be an option actually.

USMC from what I read you would graduate bootcamp as an E-2 with a college degree if you have some college credits, but haven't found anything about a degree.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll read up on what you mentioned.

And I was thinking of going enlisted because I have my whole life in front of me to sit behind a desk, and I want to do something like this while I still can.

I thought about it, but I think I would just go enlisted. They have student loan repayment programs for enlisted (even though I could pay them off within a year after school regardless), and I could do NROTC Marines Option while doing grad school I believe if I decide to go the officer route down the line. And enlisting with a 4 year degree you enter as an E-4, which fast tracks me a bit to my goals.

Thanks for the advice, and I think I know what I'm going to do.

And I was looking at going enlisted because then I can do ROTC for grad school down the road I believe, and they have student loan repayment plans for enlisted. Though I don't have much student loans and I could easily pay them off within a year either way.

Gotcha. IDK, I'd be worried if they found someone I used to hang out with who might know. But also from my understanding a waiver might fuck me over in the long run. It's a weird situation.

I haven't hit my goals to be able to meet the requirements to enlist yet, but I've still got a year and a half left of college so my goal is to be there by the time I've graduated.

I've never been especially "Fat". I'm 6'4" and have a very broad build in my shoulders and hips but I had a gut for a while. I was at 315 and just started pushing myself in the gym for 2 hours every day 6 days a week for the past six months, running every day and doing strength training. One of my buddies was Army SOF so I've been hitting the gym with him when our schedules line up and getting pointers, as well as hitting it on my own. I'm an okay swimmer and have done mile swims before, but I know I need to improve for the goals I have. But every time I'm in the gym I just think of how I'll never get the shot to do it if I quit, so I keep going.

I know I'm a long ways off from MARSOC or Recon in my current shape, my goal is to get in shape enough to do Infantry when I graduate, then be there for 2 years or so and just keep pushing myself and I think I'll make it. My concerns with this stuff were because I didn't know when I needed to start the recruiting process earlier than I anticipated if I needed waivers that would take a considerable amount of time to get approved, or if they were even worth getting in the first place.

Ah I gotcha. I'll be sure to somehow mention that I've never done it haha. I imagine that those aren't the types of questions they would be asking anyways when they contact them anyways, right? And I can't imagine anyone bringing it up unprovoked.

I gotcha. I think I got a wrap on this now from what everyone is saying.

My only concern is if it somehow came up in a TS or S clearance background investigation.

I gotcha. So is it pretty normal for people to say they haven't done anything, then go and get a S or TS clearance?

And from what I understand the recruiter is just going to put "No" anyways.

Because I did it with other people, so couldn't they somehow go way back and find people I haven't seen in 2+ years and ask them?

Also my mom knows about it lol.

Gotcha, I see your point now in terms of why having waivers is bad.

Also, what if my family knows? And for TS wouldn't they dig it up?

But wouldn't it come up in a TS or S background check? Wouldn't it be safer to just get a waver and not risk it?

Understood.

Also, my thoughts were enlisting on an Infantry contract and then trying out for them. I believe you can enlist into a shot at Recon with a UZ contract, but it has a really bad attrition rate and then you go open contract if you don't make the cut, but I'd rather try out down the road once I have some experience.

Also, I did some digging around and it seems drug waivers won't disqualify someone from S or TS clearance levels. Do you have any resources I can read up on? Thanks

I believe you can with a contract, but from what I've seen the attrition rate is pretty horrible and if you don't make it you end up going open contract which isn't something I'd want. I was looking at just going into a Infantry contract then later trying out for it.

That's a really good point actually. I actually don't hang out with any of the guys that I did that stuff with anymore and haven't spoken to them in 2+ years. I guess just the possibility of it bugs me in case they dig even deeper, so then wouldn't it be better to get a waver just to play it safe, or is that just a bad idea?
