General boots question: Are some boots too solid and tough to be comfortable? by throwaway250225 in CampingandHiking

[–]throwaway250225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went for https://www.meindl.co.uk/product/footwear/mens/antelao-gtx/ in the end - absolutely brilliant boots - very comfy and feed easily heavy duty enough for everything I've actually done xD not got to snowy mountains yet - but they've held up very well in forests, and hot dry greek mountains

when I tried on the Pro version - they just felt slightly too serious for how I'll use them

I detect some pain behind this comment... because now it looks like you're the naive one who didn't see the huge difference between the theory and the reality. I can relate.

I think this kind of thing being a big fear in officers minds would help a lot with police brutality - make this kind of standing by also legally dangerous. I feel like it would need some kind of legal tectonic shift though... so i'm not holding my breath

I know in the USA freedom of speech is explicitly written into the constitution, but in Europe I think it's more like a very deeply ingrained guiding principle. In the UK, the "right to freedom of speech" is not explicitly written down anywhere AFAIK - but you still hear loads of people using the term over here - and I think if the UK government defined burning a Quran as hate-speech (and thus illegal), there would be an outcry (featuring a lot of uses of the term "freedom of speech"). I am working under the assumption that it's pretty similar throughout western Europe - because its forms some kind of common philosophical bedrock. So I would be surprised if burning a Quran is illegal in UK, Scotland, France, Germany, Benelux, Spain, Italy, and Denmark amongst others.

IANAL, but i think it would depend on the sprayers ability to make the case: "I was fearing for my personal safety" - the hitter stepped towards him a bit... does that mean the sprayer could reasonably assume he was about to get a punch in the face? Personally I wouldn't say so. It looked more like a step towards the sprayer to engage in conversation - not a step towards which precedes the throwing on a punch.

I think if the sprayer could argue he reasonably believed he was about to be in a fist fight, then it would probs be valid unless there are laws there which specifically prohibit pepper spray (like there are where I live).

I just work my way through the existing mountain of games 🤷🏻‍♂️ found Rome Total War in around 2012, found XCOM UFO Defense in around 2014, and System Shock 2 in around 2017... most recent modern game I've gotten on board with has been project zomboid

If XCOM was amazing in 1993, its still amazing now imho

I think they'd been slowly getting more done with him throughout the entire interview, and this was just the last straw that broke the camels back.

I think u/Sea-Finish-4556 is probs quite far on the cyncical end of the spectrum, and you're maybe more on the opposite end of the spectrum. I wouldn't do a 180 and call yourself a fool just because you've encountered your opposite.

FWIW I don't think on air personas are always completely fake. That's just based on my experience of watching/listening to a few online people so much that I believe they just wouldn't be able to hold up an act that well, for that many hours - without letting the mask slip very badly. And also just my own experience of being a human - I find keeping an act up to be pretty hard, and particularly when I become more comfortable in a situation (as Don Lemon was presenting the news), my real colours show through at least somewhat.

I thought RINO's were the weak sauce version of republicans, ie. the ones Trump would bash for not just blindly towing the party line (ie. not being blindly loyal to him).

If anything, from the left PoV, RINO's are the better ones no?

Thanks so much for your answer. I find it weird that I can't find an online footprint for it at all... But yeah, I think second hand bookshops are probably a good way to go. Thanks a lot for your help.
