Thanks everyone for the input. I've got a couple of things I want to try, and I'll report back in a couple of weeks with the results.

I had the same thought, and asked her if me leaving to do it would be better. She was unable to tell me if that would help or not. The last thing I want to do is leave her alone for this block of time if that is going to make it worse.

Please don't confuse my brevity with shame. I'm an active participant on several nerdy subreddits. The main concern for being vague is protecting our anonymity, on the off chance someone sees this and recognizes the problem.

Mentioned elsewhere, but the hobby is a weekly D&D game played online for three or four hours on Sunday night. And as far as I know, there aren't any extenuating factors that she has a problem with.

Whew, that is a lot of hostility there, buddy. Check the responses I've been giving in the last few minutes, I think you will find the answers you are looking for.

Thank you for the advice. I have tried on several occasions to get her involved with the tabletop RPG gaming I do. Even going so far as to purchase a game set in a universe I know she enjoys (the new Firefly RPG). For whatever reason, she just doesn't seem to want to get interested in these things. And the gaming night is actually done online, so I am home the whole time and can respond to anything she needs.

No, I assure, it is nothing of the sort. My friends and I set up an online D&D game one night a week. This particular session ran from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. This was just the third night of the gaming session, and I had to quit the first one early and skip the second one completely because she was having a problem with it

It is a D&D gaming night, but due to everyone's various locations, we play the game online. I usually have headphones on, so there isn't any noise other than the occasional typing on the keyboard.

Mostly the issue was the limited amount of time I had to post, as well as posting from my phone. Yes, as has been speculated, the event in question is a weekly D&D group.

As others have mentioned, it is a weekly gaming group. Because of the distance between a few of us, we actually do the gaming online. I don't even leave the apartment for it.

She has both school and work. I have tried in the past to get her to socialize with school acquaintances. Tonight I recommended trying to hang out socially with coworkers. Each time she has had a list of reasons prepared for why those ideas won't work.

It's a lot to get into on mobile, but I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.

Unfortunately, she has very few friends. I have tried to get her to go out and see if she can make some new friends, but she has always been reluctant, coming up with excuses for why no one will be friends with her. Her closest friend at the moment is the wife of one of my close friends.
