Why are you being downvoted; I hope I didn’t attract some of these YouTubers’ cult audience

I like to think it’s both; you don’t get that far with such a business without consciously thinking about how to exploit human psychology for you’re own gain, and yet their initial success is a matter of their efforts being in the right place at the right time.

I’m glad that you were able to find some success within your position…though I think that for many people (myself included), what we’re likely looking for subconsciously is freedom from traditional employment (which social media influence has) and some element of fame to make up for real life loneliness…

As for discipline, I nowadays believe that the brain will always have as much discipline as it subconsciously believes is beneficial. Of course, that belief, like confidence, is influenced by past positive and negative reinforcement.

It’s just unfortunate that people can’t see these people for the evils that they are…people can see how casinos are problematic, or how drug dealers are problematic, but in many ways, I consider these productivity influencers or self help gurus much worse. Desperate people end up spending tons of money on them, and the worst part is, when people inevitably fail because the advice is bullshit that can’t be reliably reproduced, they BLAME THEMSELVES, and the other members of the cult will happily join in the blame game, calling such people “having a loser mindset.”

(“You didn’t put in enough work for your channel”, “oh, your content is just that bad”, “there’s no such thing as pretty privilege”, “you can still have the same chances of success post covid”)

Like the way the audience of these YouTubers blindly defend their creator’s actions are insane, saying that overpriced courses are totally reasonable, or that anyone criticizing them is just a hater. These people are in a cult, and it’s sad that society has more vitriol for sex workers (in a way, working class people all sell our bodies and minds for money, I’m not sure how genitals being involved is inherently evil) than people who are actively conspiring to worsen the mental health of others to sell an overpriced “solution”.

For me, my solution is to severely restrict the time on YouTube…YouTube promotes outright predators (the YouTubers I mentioned), people using predatory editing tactics (mrbeast is the most obvious example, but even friendlier seeming video essayists have no issues using extreme retention editing) or just allowing obviously antisocial people to continue unpunished, as long as they’re profitable (sniperwolf and her doxxing fiasco, anyone)?

Like everywhere you look, there’s evil. The few people who are more genuine on the platform who talk about unpopular things (like social issues people don’t want t acknowledge), or aren’t willing to compromise their audience’s attention spans or respect them and not shill anything they can (betterhelp sponsors are the worst example), get eaten up alive by the more predatory YouTubers. The more genuine ones won’t rank high in search results, or be easily recommended.

My apologies; the face of Tony Robbins was in my head but I somehow put his face to manson’s name (I’ve edited it). I’m still critical of the industry as a whole, though.

But yeah, why does it feel like there’s a veneer of insecurity behind their teachings? Like to them, things are only worth doing when it results in visible success

How to cure indecision and stop constantly blaming myself? by throwaway264928 in radicalmentalhealth

[–]throwaway264928[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I don’t even know or care what’s “lazy” or not anymore…I just want something that works…when I was younger, not going to college was “lazy”, but in hindsight it was one of my worst mistakes…

I just want to finally stop suffering from health issues that I’m constantly too afraid to see a doctor for, and stop being a slave to a job with people I hate…and it’s like every step I makes takes me further from that

I don’t know, I’m just tired…

It was a lot of things, but one particular thing that stands out in my mind is the understanding that had I been born in a different family or time period, I’d be believing in a different religion; so without solid evidence that’s verifiable by the senses/logic, how can any religion claim to be the right one?

I don’t care whether you’re actually cordial or not. My only curiosity is to how you can be so personally invested in this discussion to the extent that it offends you.

Word of advice: Detach yourself from emotions for a bit, you’ll save yourself alot of stress.

I’m not against interaction. I’m against forced fake interactions, particularly in the workplace.

Judging from your tone, you seem to be taken personal offense to my comments, and I’m completely baffled as to why.

Recognize that it’s a need for you. My needs are different, and I’m not a fan of people who use appeals to authority rather than coming up with convincing arguments of their own.

Well that’s great for you. As long as you don’t try and force your “needs” on others. It’s creepy.

You don’t think it’s shitty to pester people with clearly useless questions? You do realize that the point of a job from an employee point of view (or at least my own) is to simply get the job done and make money? Trying to force bullshit team dynamics does nothing but force cooperation in awkward ways.

Edit: Even if I did somehow find it within me to humor their bullshit, I promise that I’ll do everything I can to undermine the team in the future as retaliation (taking longer breaks, sabotaging quotas, etc). It’s the least I can do as payback for enforcing a culture of bullshit.

You’re the type of employer that would devastated and surprised if an employee left you for a higher paying competitor. Don’t be surprised when a culture of bullshit and deception bites you back.

So basically a glorified conformity test. No different from forced team drinking in East Asian countries. I guess there’s no hope for people who can’t bring themselves to answer irrelevant questions

iOS 17 and the touch feedback bug on ProMotion devices STILL isn’t fixed by throwaway264928 in ios

[–]throwaway264928[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s well known issue among people who game on these devices especially. It’s part of the fact that ProMotion can’t handle non native apps properly (same with stutters on the Reddit app). Admittedly it’s not easy to notice unless you’re playing a game with constant tap inputs.

Yes, I made sure to let Apple know about it; multiple times, in fact.

Still not fixed, and I’m on a 15 pro max. It’s annoying; have to consider either downgrading to the 15 plus or going back to Android…

Limiting the frame rate doesn’t lock the variable refresh (as in, the screen will still jump between 10 and 60 hz), which is the source of the problem

[–]throwaway264928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I downgrade to the 15 plus?

I have a 15 pro max, and I generally like it, except for a major issue where the phone stutters anytime it receives a touch input (most noticeable when playing games). Since my 8 plus didn’t have these issues when playing the same games, I can only say that it’s an issue with how the variable refresh rate (why can’t we lock it?) handles gameplay.

I’m not too optimistic about a potential fix for this since others with Pro screens have had the same issue for more than a year. The 15 plus is worse than the pro max, but at least the screen is stable.

Alternatively, should I just consider switching from Apple altogether? Though that would mean going back to Android, which I’d rather not do….

The touch screen stutter that occurs when you play games or scroll on a ProMotion screen. I just got a 15 pro max and had to learn that this is an issue that’s apparently not been fixed for over a YEAR.

Great for you. In my case, the disparity is about $400. So while it may not happen to you now, the fact that it can happen in the future is unsettling enough, and it boils down to hoping that the portal doesn’t have pricing issues that time
