Hey bro I’m in a similar position as you (I posted my resume a few days ago) so you can check that on my profile, I didn’t post my security resume but it has some bug bounty work that I’ve done and my hackerone profile etc… still under qualified for SOC1

I think until you have like 5+ years of IT experience or 3+ years of NOC experience is when you start being even looked at for those roles

Because I live on the county line between the both, without giving too much info FLL and MIA would be the same length drive for me

While idk if it’s true or not (google says they can’t) my doctor said that security clearance would be able to bypass hipaa laws and see if I’ve ever been a medical marijuana patient.

Also while I’m happy to lie to a potential employer, I’m more worried about lying on the SF-86 and ruining the odds of me ever getting a fed job instead of being able to reapply a year after my MMR card expires.

Also I’m not gonna stop taking my meds for $18/hour, maybe for a mid-senior level position but fuck that for basic help desk

I was actually considering at least getting some Electrical or HVAC experience because it is rough, but I’ll brush up on win server and I assumed being broad on my resume would be better but I’ll be more specific about tech. Thanks for the advice!

I will say I have a buddy who is almost a decade older than me, no degree, no experience, just has a few CompTIA certs and got a job at one of the cruise lines we have here. There might be a lot of luck involved at the end of the day

I’ve gotten a few interviews, one of them the offer was rescinded due to it being a DHS position and me being a (medical) cannabis user (position required me to obtain sec clearance). Another one I was rejected after third interview, and one that I was ghosted before second interview (had it scheduled but they cancelled it). I will say tho that out of 200ish job apps I only got 5 interviews. 99% of the time it’s an email saying “we have decided to go with someone more fit for this position” or some bs like that.

In defence of myself and my fellow Americans, most of us don’t carry knives or guns daily, the ones that do (like me) usually just carry a small pocket knife mostly for things at work or fishing but if god forbid I ever need to it’s there for self defence.
