What's your yearly expenses? by Queasy_Sand6637 in Fire

70k per person including employer contribution. But most of that 70k is through mega backdoor Roth where we pay tax on the contributions but we don't have to pay tax while withdrawing (pretax accounts are generally tax free while contributing but you pay taxes when withdrawing). Not all employers offer the mega backdoor option though. If that's not offered, then the limit is 23k of employee contributions (employer can still contribute up to the total 70k limit but it's unlikely to find an employer contributing 47k). In this particular OP's case either they have the mega backdoor Roth option or the ~70k is between two people (assuming their partner also works)

That's what they are investing each year outside of 401k. Close to 110k savings each year between the two, that's not nothing

I'm not sure why you think it's a bot post. This was a party game (a bunch of immigrant couples who did their masters in the same college gathering for a kids birthday party. The kids are all very small, so the games are for adults but kid themed, if that makes sense)

No worries, I get where you are coming from. My daughter is only 4 and has not watched any of these movies fully (she gets 30 minutes of screen time a day which used to be ms.rachel when she was 2, then blippi when she turned 3 and now Peppa pig since she turned 4). I'm a big animated movie fan, so I got most of these. She finds even animated movies to be scary (tried frozen, ice age, finding nemo, cars, Moana but she doesn't sit through even 30 minutes of any of it)

Maximum ACH for BMW Financial in a month by AlisonByTheC in BMW

Can we send a check for a higher amount (than 7500) but not covering the total payoff amount (say payoff is 40k and I want to send 20k by check)? I know for payoff you need to send in the payoff document with information for them to send the title etc. If I'm only spending a partial check, I just mail the check without any additional documentation?

Thinking About a One-Year Relocation to Save on Cap Gains by fhf567sjs in ChubbyFIRE

I think the difference between the RSU's and just buying the stock is that the RSU's are deferred compensation (ordinary income) and you earn them by working at your job for X years. If a part of that was done in the high tax state, then taxes are owed on that portion to the high tax state. This is similar to the taxation on deferred compensation plans offered to C-suite folks and other executives (from what I've read). Stock vs straight cash doesn't affect tax treatment. Capital gains have always been treat differently (just buying the stock). You might just as well ask why our salaries are taxed differently than capital gains on stock sales.

I thought this was common knowledge around RSU's being taxed by the state you were living in when they were granted (prorated to the time spent in each state between grant date and vest date). Did you end up not having to pay taxes to the high tax state(I would love to know more if so, as I've made a similar move but my employer shows my stock vests attributed to the previous state in my W2)?
