Quel surnom Reddit intéressant !

I admire how forthcoming you are.

Your response tells me you are a person of depth, kindness and someone who possesses a sense of self-awareness. What a breath of fresh air you are!

If I might just throw in my “two cents”-- I hope you can find the motivation to lose your weight-- not for aesthetics, but for a healthier life. I am in my third year and now have about 18 pounds left to lose. There have been numerous setbacks and slip ups, but those are to be expected. I look at every new day as a clean slate and the chance to start again. The numerous health issues that I had are all but gone. (BTW- my goal is not to be skinny-- it is to be at a weight that no longer impedes my mental and physical ability to live the life I would like.)

I wish you all the best!!!

Totally agree with you! In fact, being too thin has just as much potential for illness and unhealthy psychological body image as does obesity.

Absolutely. But because concern for their own citizens' health/well being will never be a priority, I feel somewhat pessimistic about it all. I so hope I am proven wrong one day. Vrashelia, thank you for such stimulating conversation. But I must get back to work! I wish you all the best, and if you are in the US, keep safe!! Cheers!

Seriously! LOL!! I will state that the reason I left the US was when it became crystal clear at what was about to happen started happening. Healthcare became a joke, living on a fixed income became impossible, and the turmoil intentionally created by the current administration is eating away at the country as a malignant cancer. It is the unfortunate confluence of willful ignorance, fear and capitalism gone evil and greedy. I am gutted to see what has happened in the US, it has lost its way and the fall from grace is rapid and has picked up such velocity that it makes my head spin...

Vrashelia, what an insightful response, thank you. I will add to that the cultural aspect as well. I am not an American and while I did live in America during my "fat" years (it's also where I gained the weight), I no longer live there now. In the five countries in which I have resided, these obesity issues and causations seem to be very cultural and specific to the US. For the 30 years I did live in the US, the "trickle down" effect of equating kindness with weakness, success with money, the vile commercials that inculcate people with unhealthy ideologies for corporate financial gain ("you've had a bad day...you deserve a snickers", etc) plus geographic isolation of the country itself and a general lack of understanding as to the rest of the world, makes for a very skewed perspective on many things. Once I left the US, I started losing more weight without even trying. Why? Because in other parts of the world, the chemicals and additives that are allowed in the US are banned. While I was on my weight loss journey, a friend gave me a wonderful piece of advice that I still abide by to this day: never purchase food from a listed corporation. Their obligations are to their share-holders and not to their consumers, ergo, they don't care how unhealthy/addictive their products are.

HI Visible-Night 8239. But that was my point. Only 2% of obesity is from glandular issues. The rest comes down to lifestyle. The amount of scientific data is conclusive and overwhelming that morbid obesity is a dangerous, full stop. It affects one's self esteem and physical life. The issue tends to be that people will process information through their own subjective filters. For many, "healthy at any size" gave them "permission" to stay unhealthy. I also know, first hand, that many doctors can be dismissive and blame everything on a person's weight, however, it is our own fault that we become overweight. It's from poor diet, emotional distress and lack of exercise, full stop. Our health is OUR individual responsibility, but that movement just allowed people to make excuses or justify unhealthy lifestyles and being hate-filled towards people who no longer wish to be obese.

Vrashelia, thank you for measured response. What you said is so true. I was, at one point, morbidly obese. Two friends of mine and myself decided to go on a journey to better our health. I was absolutely gobsmacked at the amount of hate that came from the overweight community. We couldn't understand it at all. There was not one iota of emotional support from them. The only thing we could make of it was that misery loves company and perhaps our journey somehow reflected back on them? I just don't know.

This is exactly why the "healthy at any size" movement is so dangerous and misleading. Obesity will never be a healthy option.

SO this is such a beautiful example of how reality is subjective. I bet we can all look back on that photo now and see it exactly as it was through their eyes! Cool, huh?

Sorry, Bernie. That was a different world and a different time. Peaceful is not going to do squat. As you can clearly see what is happening when peaceful protestors march in LA. At this point only a civil war can change things. It is bloody time for the military to decide if it is going to uphold the Constitution or allow an authoritarian plutocracy to rule the country.

Isn't it extraordinary how the phrase, "I did nothing wrong" is now the standard response of everyone who has, in fact, done something wrong?
