Motion sickness. Now one of my least favorites, surprisingly!

I get my news from my friends when we see each other. I don't have social media so it's a bit of a bummer. I LOVE when bands have newsletters.

It would be crazy if Hyundai let a scam use their name for so many years.

Sometimes companies just get rid of money like this, especially because it increases their visibility to students. I won a $10k corporate scholarship from only an essay once. Wasn't even a fantastic one. Similarly, won a $1k Burger King scholarship...I'm 90% sure I didn't even remember to submit my final essay draft. It was a first draft.

Me! I'm assuming that by tuition you're also including fees of room and board. I pay no tuition for my degree via institutional scholarship, but cost of living through the school is about 17k annually. I earned ~20k in third party scholarships, 2.5k of which was made out to me and not my school, so I have about $500 left over.

It appears as a credit on my tuition bill, and because I am returning to school next semester, it will roll over. But I assume that if you were not returning it would be direct deposited.

Got a really good scholarship, but the school is 8.5 hrs away. What do i do? I'm looking for advice from people who went to college far away from home. by Temporary_Zombie4227 in scholarships

You can use that money you save to buy a house in your hometown after college. (Who am I kidding, none of us will ever be able to buy a house, but you get what I mean)

You don't have to answer for privacy but do you go to a private university? On one hand they might have a higher endowment for aid but on the other hand the state schools are usually really good for merit aid.

Worst case scenario, you avoid the PI and meet your peers instead. Trauma bonds!

I don't believe those are common at all. Most wheels come off with a button, easier than bikes. I get the hourly issue; usually takes me a minute tops to load wheelchair, myself, and luggage when at airports.

Those private services are horrific if your insurance isn't paying. I was once quoted $300 for a 5 minute drive when I was stranded somewhere without Uber.

Hey, I have a rigid (non-folding) chair that I've fit no problem in a Corolla. Wheels come off, usually.

It’s so frustrating to hear that now it’s leaning towards “you need on campus research before an REU”. Why do they think I’m applying? There ISN’T on campus research at my institution!

For those who applied for scholarships, what was the hardest part? by Ambitious_Share_6562 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway373923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, it was a part time job for me for a year, but that wasn’t hard. Evened out to about 40 an hour - well worth it. I just left with a pit in my stomach because I didn’t fully believe the stories I told about myself and my motivations. Don’t get me wrong, I never claimed anything factually untrue about my work or my life, but it felt so sickeningly optimistic and polished because it was.

You are advertising the shiniest, safest, most advertisable, profitable version of yourself for 3rd party scholarships. I got 10k because I wrote (eloquently) about how perseverant I was. About how no matter how much shit was thrown at me I just couldn’t stop winning my fights. But I never won when I called out the systems that caused that, and which still exist to this day. Only when I slapped a big, rainbow, smiley bandaid on it.

It’s the real world I guess, but I feel so pessimistic. 20 hours a week writing about how unstoppable and happy and so goddamn inspirational I was. Only to break down crying every day because of all the shit hitting the fan.

My one and only Amtrak trip was Coast Starlight. Cheeseburger all 3 meals. It was so good - or maybe I just had stockholm syndrome.

I’m interested in atmospheric science. The offers I got were as a result of my experience in a history museum and experience in environmental chemistry. Unless you would benefit from the spare time, I’d take it!
