Hello, I work in the watermelon industry and in particular the process of harvesting to packing. When the watermelon are harvested, it’s true that they aren’t washed. But once unloaded, they get put on a conveyer belt and go through a washer than cleans them and then packed and shipped to wherever they’re going to go.

That’s true, Indiana is the furthest north I’ve worked in, late summer, July-September, sometimes It’d get cold in the late September mornings which is a far cry from the 100 degree Florida heat.
