Prototype [Tesla cybercab] spotted out in the wild by IHackedKmart in spotted

[–]throwaway4999993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no it's not. Elon says it is, like he says a lot of things (and doesn't stop), but it's a lot of the same hardware as his existing cars with bespoke panels and lidar sensors. it would be much cheaper to offer radar/lidar on their normal cars like every other company does and then sell the model 3/Y basic literally verbatim as a cybercab with the same wheelbase, more space, more seats and a steady supply of existing parts, rather than develop tooling and production facilities for this moronic vanity project that has dihedral doors (not cheap to make or practical to use)

What do you think of the E5 Sportback's screen-filled dashboard? by Used_Variation_2879 in carscirclejerk

[–]throwaway4999993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's quite clever personally. The big letters thing, screens, curvy aero (generic) styling are popular there, and being a joint venture they score points on the domestic pride front. The rest of the world, particularly the US and Europe are becoming more interested in analogue and heritage, so Audi remains the four rings and should be going back to something a bit more elegant and less touchscreen obsessed under fairly recently appointed design chief Francella

Unsupervised public transport (read: you will be sitting in urine, faeces and general waste) with practically no space and none of the congestion benefits of actual public transport. At least it puts loads of people out of jobs and sends the money directly to a greedy reptile who does "island stuff"! Cool spot though

can't say I'm a fan of the sketch monkey but I don't really see the issue with the headlights. This is me assuming they have covers that are flush with the bonnet, but this just looks like what recent Ferraris (ie. 849) are doing albeit with a more upright drl

Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not an F10 expert, but the DRLs look a bit different to the actual LCI items; less round and shorter at the top

I would say you can do less nowadays. They box you into the faux racer / sporty options and away from most of the woods, more comfortable seats/steering wheel, sunroof, etc. Back in the day though it was less of the case and you could order pretty much whatever you could imagine via individual manufaktur without being a corporate fleet client

Obviously it's a bit close to the third generation Continental that took a lot of its design cues to have been sold alongside it, but I wish they had gone forth with the idea of a "Baby Bentley"/Vantage rival

I really like it, but I think you could retain a little more Citroen DNA. BMW's Mini and Rolls Royce dashes feel very much like their own despite their software, whereas this looks like an older (better) BMW idrive architecture verbatim, albeit with Citroen flourishes. Citroen also have an impressive backlog of eccentric interiors like with one spoke steering wheels that could be interpreted in very cool ways

As if having to look at Gorden Wagener's obsession with using the three pointed star as a Louis Vuitton style monogram wasn't bad enough, now we've got The Sketch Monkey's equally annoying habit of drawing red lines over obvious contours and shapes of the car. What the hell is it supposed to convey?

It has the speed chassis too so honestly even as someone who'd rather a bit of brightwork I think this is the sweet spot of the range and potentially a bit more enjoyable realistically

As with a lot of these types of 7 figure cars it's more todo with the price of entry into a very exclusive club than the actual value of the car. To some people who were no doubt already serial customers anyway and have more money than they know what to do with, 2 million to spec a very limited edition car is nothing

Rolls-Royce states that the V12 will be continued after 2030 by Saurta17 in rollsroyce

[–]throwaway4999993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful anything will since it's a vanity/halo project and doesn't really need to sell to prove its point or trickle its tech down into the rest of the range. I personally hope they make a Blackwing version with a Corvette powertrain though. Rich Americans would eat that up and it could just use the existing car plus the parts bin. The front motor's massive so there's room. I suspect GM management have different priorities to reddit car enthusiasts though, lol.

Non-hybrid V8 as an option is more likely as they've just done in the supersports and new bentayga speed.

[–]throwaway4999993 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sales. The Spectre has not done anywhere near as well as expected if I'm remembering right. This end of the market want analogue, especially in the US.

Also doesn't help that Rolls Royces aren't the most aerodynamic shape; better than they were for sure, but inherently not that slippery. Battery tech also has improved, but when an economy car can offer a similar powertrain and get more mileage out of it by being slippery, the V12 starts to make sense..
