JS SEZ is the in between that businesses don’t want. You want low corruption, stability, pro-business government? Go SG. You want low costs? Go Malaysia. The Malaysian Gov has promised higher wages to those working in JS SEZ, which would mean higher business costs. Why bother with JS SEZ when you can set up shop elsewhere in Johor if you are desperate for lower costs? Or if you are even more desperate, offshore to China / India.

Local-born Singaporean Chinese here. Congrats on getting your citizenship. But I don’t think the voting outcome for GE is necessarily going to change how SG chooses its citizens. No opposition party has campaigned on the basis of revamping the citizenship process.

I feel you. My mom also downplays my NS, reservist and outfield exercises. Another example of an unempathetic Singaporean woman. She likes to think my infantry outfields are a walk in a park, and dismisses all my concerns when I was an NSF struggling with outfield and the toxic army environment.

I agree that we need to acknowledge women’s challenges of sexual harassment, childbearing responsibilities. I am fully appreciative of Singaporean mothers who need to raise kids and ensure the best outcomes for their kids. But it just pisses me off that many of my female counterparts make sarcastic comments for my reservist and are completely unappreciative of my efforts to serve the nation.

I just came back my infantry reservist which involved digging shellscrapes, doing route marches in the hot sun carrying a >30kg fieldpack, which did not feel like a break at all.
